Questions & Answers for DDF Benzoyl Peroxide Gel

Question
Does this bleach towels/sheets?
I've used Proactiv in the past and it took the colour out of towels, bed linens and clothes I was wearing while washing my face. Has anyone had any bleaching with using this Benzoyl Peroxide gel?

It hasn't bleached anything I've owned! I accidentally got some on one of my favorite black shirts, and nothing happened. It's pretty gentle, although it does warn on the bottle to not put it on dyed fabrics. So it might depend on the fabric if it will bleach or not.

All Benzoyl Peroxide products can bleach colored clothing, obviously if you are using really strong stuff (10%) it will be worse but it can happen.

Yes, I have. My husband is always complaining about me ruining towels and pillow cases. But its worth it to me because it works so I just decide to deal with it and I use specific towels.

Yes I have. I had brown pillowcases that ended up with orange splotches. I have since changed to white ones and seems fine now.

Question
Do you use all over the face or only on breakouts?
I was just wondering if you are supposed to use this all over the face at night or only on breakout areas (for me that is my chin area and sometimes forehead) i wasnt sure if it would irritate the parts of my face that are clear.

I use it all over my face! I had a lot of acne on my cheeks, and small bumps everywhere else, along with blackheads and some whiteheads. I put it all over because I wanted everything to go away! While it hasn't completely taken away my blackheads, the rest of my skin has gotten SO much better. It's great.

You should just use it on areas where you are prone to breaking out, it will help prevent new pimples if you use it consistently. That said, the new formula is so heavy there is no way I would put it all over my face.

I use it all over but if you never break out in certain areas just zone apply. Remember BP is a preventative, better at keeping breakouts from happening than getting rid of blemishes you already have.

I use it all over and no irritation. Be careful if you use it on your neck, it can be drying.

Question
How long does it take?
I just recently purchased it and it seems like it is making me breakout more than clearing up my skin. But I'm not sure if it is because it's getting all the bad stuff out? Does anyone know how long it takes before the product starts working?

For me it started working pretty immediately. In the first two days I noticed my skin clearing up. If it's making your skin break out, I would stop using it. Benzoyl Peroxide typically dries out acne and blackheads, it doesn't usually extract or "pull the bad stuff out."

Have you tried using a BP wash along with it? That has helped me out quite a bit. Also, from my own personal experience, if you have the chance to go to a dermatologist, ask about ketocozanole shampoo. It was a miracle worker for me, literally. It's pretty cheap and worth a try.

Since they changed the formula, I have noticed that this stuff is making my skin worse. I think it is too heavy now and may be clogging my pores. If you are having issues with breaking out, you might want to find something else. The old version of this product only made my skin slightly dry if I used it too often but it never made me break out. Too bad they altered the product because it used to be really good.

Question
Moisturizer
I noticed that this product is making my skin dry and flake. I have been using this with the DDF oil-free moisturizer. I usually put on the moisturizer and then the gel. Are there any other ways to make my skin become less dry??

I would try two or three small drops of Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil in the evening. Wait 15 minutes and then apply the Benzoyl Peroxide Gel. It has amazing reviews and has worked wonders for me in conjunction with the BP Gel. In the morning I am using L'Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Face Cream. I never would have thought I could use Shea butter on my face without breaking out, but it also works amazing when applied before the BP Gel.

I use organic jojoba oil from a health store/natural market. Only 3 or so drops will do wonders! Thing is, you have to use a sunscreen in conjunction.

I cut back to once a day with this product because it was drying out my skin, and I moisturize twice a day now (after applying the gel and then again at night), and I use a moisturizing foundation. It is still effective for me using it once a day, and the other products I am using have made up for the drying.

Hi, there! My recommendation is using a moisturizer that is not oil-free and non comedogenic. I would not use an oil-free moisturizer with benzoyl peroxide, because it is a strong and drying agent. The benzoyl peroxide dries the bacteria and oil out of your pores, and keeps them clear. So you need to give moisture back to your face and unfortunately a oil-free moisturizer does not provide a sufficient amount of moisture to your face. Try using Eucerin Moisturizing Creme. It is really thick stuff, and so you only need a dab. Divide your face into 4 sections: forehead, cheeks, chin, and nose. Then apply just a dab to each section. Again I say, be careful how much you put on. You only need a small dab. To much, and your face will feel and look greasy. It's non comedogenic, fragrance free, and isn't oil free. Its actually made to soothe and moisturize dry and flaking skin from over- drying treatments. I hope this helps! :)

Question
2 oz. DDF Benzoyl Peroxide Gel withTea tree oil?
I used to order a 2 oz. DDF gel product with 5% benzoyl peroxide that does not say "with tea tree oil." I cannot find the product without tea tree oil now. Is with "tea tree oil" the new product that replaces without "tea tree oil"?

It still has tea tree oil in it. The front of the box always said "benzoyl peroxide 5% acne treatment" and the front of the bottle used to say "with tea tree oil". I am guessing they changed the packaging of the bottle to match the box.

I asked the Sephora rep about that today since the only DDF BP gel they had in store was the one that did not mention "with Tea Tree Oil". She said that most probably it's JUST new packaging, and then pointed out that in the one that did not explicitly mention tea tree oil, still added it in the ingredients section. It just wasn't advertised, but tea tree oil is definitely in the old one as well.

I haven't seen the one without the tea tree oil, but I do have to say that the tea tree is an amazing ingredient for any acne fighting product as it gets rid of bacteria and helps heal blemishes.

It hasn't reduced redness for me, but definitely cleared up my acne. But I have been using Murad Post-Acne Spot Treatment. It's somewhat expensive, but it's been working so well! It's so worth it. It has lightened red spots and dark spots from old acne, and evened out my skin tone.

For me it is impossible to stay clear only spot treating. I use a thin layer of this every night and it has really helped to clear the monthly breakouts and to stay more clear overall than when I would just try to dab it on existing blemishes.
