I have two recommendations, depending on the concealer formula you choose to use.
If you use a liquid or cream concealer...
- Apply the concealer where its needed, making sure to blend out the edges so it looks seamless with your skin.
- Allow to dry, then set with a setting powder just to the areas you used concealer.
- To set the concealer I apply with a sponge or puff, tapping the setting powder on, then allowing it to stay there for 1 to 2 minutes before taking a clean fluffy brush and sweeping off the excess powder.
- By setting the concealer first it will help keep it in place and not slip around or make the Duo Mat look cakey on top.
- Then apply the Duo Mat Powder Foundation like normal; tapping it on if you had a difficult area to cover/set.
If you use a powder concealer...
- Apply Duo Mat as you would.
- Apply your powder concealer as you would.
- If your concealer doesn't blend well, take a fluffy brush and light sweep on Duo Mat to blend it in.

I used to have the same problem before, but I have found some ways to solve that. Try using a concealer that's much lighter than your usual shade. That usually helps avoid the dark blotchy marks that some powders tend to do when applied on top of concealed areas. Or better yet, use a color correcting concealer (those green/yellow/peach ones). Don't forget to blend your concealer well on your skin, too! Don't just make the concealer sit on your face like a spot; make sure to concentrate on the blemish then blend it out such that it fades well to the area around it. That will help in achieving a more even skin tone without those weird spots when you apply the powder on top.
Hope that helps!

I dab and blend Kat Von D's Tattoo concealer on any red areas and under the eyes, then dust the Duo Mat all over my face with a stipple brush. I constantly get compliments about how great my skin looks. Make sure to use a moisturizer or face primer before though.

I recommend using this as a setting powder over the Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation. The two used together create a perfectly smooth, even, flawless coverage, without looking cakey and made up. I've tried probably 100 foundations in the past 15 years, and this with the Mat Velvet + is truly the best by far!

Hi - I have the exact same issue. I think any concealer will work - the trick is the application of the powder. I've used the "Amazing Cosmetics" concealer. A little goes a very, very long way. It's a little clunky to work with until you figure it out, but it covers well and stays on all day. But here's the big thing - the application of the powder. I use a big brush, like a Kabuki brush to apply instead of the sponge. Just swirl around the make up and apply. This way it goes on more like a loose powder and gives you more control on the amount of make-up you're using. Good luck!

I used to do the concealer then foundation routine for a while until somebody told me to try foundation then concealer on top routine. I find that it works and that you control how heavy or light you want to go. I used to use Benefit's concealer line but was suggested The Balm's concealer and I find it better than Benefit's.

Putting on the foundation first is the key for me. Then I have only tiny spots that have to have concealer and I can dab it so it doesn't look heavy or uneven. Hope that helps.
