Mat Velvet definately has more coverage. I have used both products. I love the way HD feels but it just does not cover up the redness from acne that the Mat Velvet does.

I use the medium beige in BE (which may be a little dark for me in the winter) I am using the MAT Velvet+ for the winter in #40 I believe its Natural or Neutral Beige. It matches my skin perfectly. If the medium beige is too light for you you may want to go a shade lighter with this. Hope this helps!

Your best bet is to go into a Sephora store and either try some on your neck and jawline right then and there... OR get one of the beauty professionals to make you a sample of a few different shades so that you can see them on.

Question
Does Mat Velvet last in the heat? Is it sweat-proof?
Oily/combo skin, light to medium complexion. Living in a warm place and it's been very hot. How well does this last in intense heat? I'm not used to this kind of heat and perspire a great deal; my mineral makeup doesn't stand up to it, will Mat Velvet last?

Definitley. I live in South Florida, where it is extremely hot and humid. When I used to wear Bare Minerals and eat outside during lunch, or stay and talk outside after church, I would have to quickly run inside because it would look orange and my face would be very oily and greasy-looking.

With this, I was amazed when I went back inside and saw that I did not have to blot at all. And I have two hour lunches in the sun!

I would think matte, since you are oily you want to avoid shine. Also make sure to moisturize because not doing so can cause your skin to think its dehydrated and produce more oil. Use something Like Dr. Feelgood as a primer prior to make up

Question
How do you find out Mat Velvet + Matifying foundation's shade if you only have the bottle?
I threw away the box. The Ref number on the bottom is 37045 and the Lot No. is MK04A. I finally found the perfect foundation and I'm the type that likes to shop-n-go, so I really need to know what colour it is or how I can find that out.

I squeeze about a small amount onto the back of my hand, and give it a few seconds because the warmth from your hand warms the makeup, and causes it to thin out a little bit, making it easier to apply and blend, it also keeps the makeup from getting cakey looking.

A very small amount seems to go a long way -- I've been using it for several weeks and still somehow manage to squirt out more than I need half the time. Just a pearl-size drop should do it, especially if you use a primer which helps blendability.

Question
what shade should i use?
I use laura mercier powder foundation in No. 3 (for fair to medium yellow undertones) . and light in bare minerals.
i think i should use No. 30 or No. 40 but i'm not sure .
sadly i can't go to a sephora to match my skintone. please help.
oh and can you tell me if this last through all day or does the consistency of the make up ends up looking cakey or doesn't look natural.
And what do you use to make your makeup look flawless, because i always seem to have streaks and my make up doesn't blend very well.
here's a photo if you can help me determinate my shade. thanks for the help.

I would try using a good foundation brush (Sephora's #55 foundation brush is an excellent choice) to help prevent the streaking. I too have problems with this streaking or not blending well enough if I just use my fingers or a sponge but a brush helps with that.

If I were you I'd go with # 40. I wear fairly light in BE and buy #20. I believe #40 has more yellow than #30 which you will need if you wear light in BE. BE light is really yellow in comparison to fairly light. I would suggest going into a store and being color matched by a Sephora sales associate. They are really quick and eager to help match me in a shade.

I purchased this amazing foundation and it is perfect. but it is running out and i can't find anywhere on the bottle that tells me the shade so that i can re-order it online. this is further complicated by the fact that i'm now living in australia and unable to bring the bottle in personally - is there a way to tell what colour i'm using?

I had the same problem and wasn't sure which my shade was and I kept the old bottle. I looked online as to which two would probably be closest to my skin tone and chose from there - also based on season, I went lighter than dark figuring it was winter and I wasn't tan. :)

I prefer to use a foundation brush to apply my foundations and the same holds true for Mat Velvet. There's less waste and it's easier to get into the little nooks. It's easier to build up coverage as well. After I use the brush, I'll lightly tap my fingers over my skin or gently press a puff or sponge to ensure a smooth finish.

This foundation is neither over-drying or over-moisturizing so you can pretty much do an even layer all over. Follow with a powder to ensure staying power.

I have combination skin as well and I prefer to blend with my fingers. Some people like a sponge because a little bit goes a long way with this foundation. I prefer not to use the sponge because so much is absorbed into it and wasted that way. Just remember a dab will do ya. Start light and increase the coverage if you need it. If you get carried away just blot away with a tissue.
