I just saw that what I first posted in response to this was the answer to a DIFFERENT question. Der.
I always use an oil-based cleanser to remove this, since it's waterproof. I've never found anything else that completely removes it. That sounds scary if you're acne-prone, but neither this sunscreen nor an oil cleanser will contribute to breakouts. When you use good cosmetic-grade oils on your face, they actually help break down your facial oils and clean out your pores. I'm a little acne-prone and have been using oil cleansers to remove makeup and waterproof sunscreen for YEARS without any breakouts from it. You can try to make your own oil cleanser (tips here: http://makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=115669/OCM-Oil-Cleansing-Method-with-Polysorbate/Unlisted-Brand/Cleansers); or try one of the nice ones that are made by DHC, Nude Beauty, or Boscia.
Hope that helps!!!!

It's PABA free, but I don't think it's chemical-free. I still love it, though. For a chemical-free sunscreen, try something by Coola (unfortunately, Sephora doesn't yet carry it). Coola sunscreens are great, and they're organic. I've been reading up on finding a healthy and chemical-free sunscreen lately, too.
But, I do happen to be using the Shiseido SPF 38 right now and love it. SInce it's water-resistant, it needs to be removed with an oil-based cleanser (Shiseido makes one, so does NUDE...the Nude one is better). These oil cleansers sound weird, but will not cause breakouts . I've been using them for years for sunscreen/makeup removal prior to washing my face...I have really good skin, so I guess this system works.

The best way to wash off sunscreens, in my opinion, is with a cleansing oil! Boscia makes a great one!

I use one before using my regular cleanser, that way I can get all the sunscreen/makeup/etc off my face!

This products tends to wash off easily with a gentle facial wash. There is no residue left behind. I have extremely sensitive skin and my face will break out in a second from so many products and this works great!!

i have combination skin with mild acne. this sunscreen hasn't caused any more breakouts for me. since it is very water resistant, mild cleanser doesn't fully remove the suscreen. i use a pore refining cleanser (same line) and it seems to do the job.

I have acne-prone combination skin too. I've never noticed a change in breakouts with this product. It does cause my skin to be very greasy though.

I'm not sure if it's oil-free, but I've been using it for YEARS on my acne-prone, combo skin and it has not given me any zits. Ever.

I doubt this will make you break out. I have super sensitive skin prone to blemishes the second I apply a certain skincare/make-up product-- and I have not yet broke out using this product (It's been a few months now). As weird as it may sound, this product actually IMPROVED my skin texture. It's highly moisturizing as well.

This product is non-greasy and does not clog my pores. I have toruble with breakouts with so many creams, especially suncreens, but this one has caused no problems. It feels very light on my skin. It also works well under my mineral makeup.

Question
Is this a chemical sunscreen?
I read this in a DDF sunscreen review: "I learned that chemical sunscreens are really bad for you in that if you do not use an antioxidant with it or if the chemical sunscreen does not have one, it can actually cause the collagen in your skin to breakdown. (I am a licensed esthetician.) So I was so happy to find this product, which is a physical block of zinc and titanium." Also, I was wondering whether the Shiseido SPF 55 is PABA free too?

Question
Does this come sealed?
Ugh, I hate to be that person, but I've gotten Shiseido stuff before and it always came sealed or at least had a sticker "seal". I just bought this, and when I opened it when I got home, I noticed a lot of dried producty fingerprints all over the box, and it wasn't sealed. When I opened it, it was full of air lol. I feel like I got jipped out of almost 50% of the product :(

I've bought this product a few times and never had an issue. If you had an issue with the product, you should return it and get another one.

You're right, it isn't sealed. That's ridiculous that you were sent one in such bad condition. I'd have thought that someone in customer service would give it a quick once-over to make sure it's decent. I'm one of those people who (when I buy it in the store) always pick one from waaaaay in the back and look it over to make sure no one has opened it.
Maybe you can send it back and ask for a replacement (?).

I'd recommend using a toner after washing. That will ensure you get the last of the SPF off.

This comes out white and a creamy consistency just like a nice lotion. It disappears on skin when you apply it, however. If you wash your face with a cleanser (I use my clarisonic mia) or soap/face wash, then it will and does wash off easily.

I have not been able to find this specific product in a store but it is easy to order online. Plus it ships right to your door! I have found many of the other Shiseido products in stores though.

Question
What is the difference between the Extra Smooth and the Ultimate Sun Protection Creams?
I have been using the SFP 55 Ultimate Sun Protection Cream, but would like to know how the Extra Smooth formulation is different; especially if it is a similar matte finish?

I've used both the 38 and the 55 many times. They are very similar, so I supposed it's a matter of which SPF you'd prefer. The textures are almost the same, although the 55 is thicker and I find it a bit more drying. I am currently using the 38 and am loving it more than the 55 for that reason. The consistency of the 38 is lighter, it's a bit easier to spread, is more moisturizing, and evens out my skin tone and texture just as well as the 55. They both have a matte finish, but I think that the 38 is a softer matte. Neither have given me any breakouts.
Hope that helps!

In my experience, it does its job to keep my face as fair as it can during spring and summer. I have acne scars and try to keep my face from tanning as much as possible. It has always been very effective for me.
