In most other parts of the world (France, Japan, etc.) the term "lotion" is used for what we here in the United States refer to as "toner". You can apply this product by adding a few drops to the palms of your hand and pressing it lightly into your skin or use a cotton pad. It's housed in a simple glass bottle with a stopper on the top. It is NOT a spray.

The Shishedo Essence pours out of the bottle, so you have to be careful to get only a few drops on your fingertips. It is not a toner, it is, basically, a serum. Or Essence as Korean beauty routines name it. I use it after washing my face, morning and evening, before moisturizer. So after toner if you use one.

A lot of people don't understand how to properly use this product on a shiseido cotton pad, thus they claim it's wasteful to use on the cotton pad. On the contrary, if you properly use it with shiseido cotton pad (which I do,) you won't loose any of the liquid and 3-4 drops will cover your entire face! To find out how to properly use it, search it on youtube. search shiseido eudermine commercial and click on the chinese lady one, watch how she uses it.

This is a "lotion" there is no sprayer but you could put it in a spray bottle. Very hydrating and if you use the cotton pads from them it makes the bottle last longer. Be careful where you put the bottle almost broke it a few times

Question
Would you need to use a moisturizer after this product?
I've been looking into Shiseido's Eudermine Revitalizing Essence for a while and have been interested in incorporating it into my current skin care routine as a toner/lotion, but while reading the product description today it sounded like it's being sold as more of a moisturizer. My question is: would I use this strictly as a toner and apply my current moisturizer on top as normal, or would I use it after cleansing and skip my moisturizer entirely? Thanks!

Yes, you need a moisturizer after. This is a serum, basically. I wash my face, use Shishedo's Essence, my moisturizer and then my SPF. Then I put on my makeup if going out. Of course, I have dry skin and am 59 years old. You may not want to do so many steps, in which case I'd suggest using it only at night under your night cream.

Use this product after cleansing and toning then apply serums and moisturizers. While the product adds a dewy moisture to your skin, I find I still prefer to use moisturizer on my combination skin.

You need to moisturize over this essence. The moisturizer seals in the moisture.

Most definitely. I adore Eudermine because it preps my face for my morning/evening skincare regime, however it's not a true "moisturizer" but more of a preparing toner. It gives the skin an initial shot of moisture (kind of like you'd get when splashing the face with water), but its purpose is to soften the skin and make it more receptive to the skincare treatments you use after application.

I am using the white lucent line? When can you use the eudermine essence in the routine? After the softener or after the moisturizer? Is it used daily or sometimes? Do I interchange a product from my white lucent line? Any advice appreciated. D

I think the bottle is absolutely gorgeous and looks beautiful sitting out in any bathroom. After cleansing your skin use your clean hands and pour a quarter size amount of this into your hands and pat it gently on all of your face, neck and chest. Then apply your serums and other products. It is wonderfully softening and moisturizing and soothing and makes my other products go on much smoother and efficiently. I have probably four or five other fermented water sprays and Asian toners that I use and this is one of my favorites.

After cleansing and toning, apply the Essence with your fingers with a patting motion. Then you can layer on serums, moisturizers, etc. I did quite a bit of research upon purchasing this product so I could use it to its fullest potential.

This product would be replacing your softener: after cleansing and before any serums, then lotion. It is supposed to slough off dead skin cells and prep your face for any serums and lotions, making them more easily absorbed.

One useful tip: just your fingers to apply and skip the cotton pad. The bottle is horrible and I haven't found a way to apply this wonderful product with a cotton pad without wasting this magic potion.

The Eudermine Essence is used the same way as the softener. We recommend using one or the other and applying right after cleansing. Hope this helps!

I know they've made this for over 140 years with similar if not the same ingredients in Japan. It's used for softening the skin it is not a toner like an astringent American toner

Fermented grain water is the basis , similar to SKll. It's absolutely wonderful… Don't waste it on a cotton ball just pour some on your clean hands and pat on to your face / neck/ eye area before your serum and creams

It's a toner but not in the American sense of a toner that you put on with a cotton ball that strips your face. You clean your face you poor saw this on your hands you Pattette gently onto your skin and then you put your serum and moisturizer and whatever else. It's absolutely wonderful and softens dry skin I use it on my hands my chest my neck before my other products after cleansing

According to Shiseido website, you should use Eudermine after cleansing, and then follow with moisturizer or serum. I use it as a toner.

It can be used as either. It's formulated to be a moisturizer -- a lighter emulsion -- but it can, if used with a lighter moisturizer, work ok as a toner, too. I find it works best if I don't use a toner before I use it; usually an oil-reducing cleanser, then this elixir, work great during the day, and I can use this very sparingly as a toner at night before my anti-aging night cream.

The only way I could open it is to use one of those gripper pads you use to open jars. The thinner the better since the stopper is so small. I think you can find them in kitchen supply stores. Ladies, don't return it out of frustration. It's a great product.

It was a little hard for me to open too when I first received the bottle, but after you get the top out the first time, it's really easy to open again in the future.

I wiggled the top back and forth and pulled, and it eventually came out without any of the product spilling.

I don't think this answer will help but I certainly was not able to open it. I tried all night with my bare hands and with tools. My finger is bruised from all this effort. I can't imagine liking this product and wanting to buy it again just to go through this again. I will be returning this product promptly and exchanging it for a toner that is easier to open and alcohol-free.

No, this product is not for you if you have dry skin. The main ingredients are water and alcohol which will make your skin tight. This is an astringent product rather than a toner. If you can find orange flower water you will find it much more comfortable.

Hey there,
I have very dry skin and this product acts like a catalyst (activates) to my moisturizer. It's almost as if it allows my moisturizer to be absorbed by my skin. I use Shiseido's Pure facial moisturizer and prior to me using this product (or any moisturizer) it almost felt as though moisturizer just sat on my face with out any epidermal penetration. This product has seriously changed my skin's moisture level. I love this stuff! It is a bit pricey so instead of using a cotton ball, I use my hands to apply it on my face. Any additional product can be absorbed onto your hands for additional moisture ; ) Hope this helps!
