Not all alcohols are harmful to the skin - the ones to watch out for are ethanol, denatured alcohol, ethyl alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol & SD alcohol, all of which can be drying/irritating. (Obviously, this is more of an issue for women w/dry and/or sensitive skin.) You are mistaken about mineral oils - cosmetic grade mineral oils "are considered the safest, most nonirritating, & effective moisturizing ingredients ever found." This info is from "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me," 6th Ed., by Paula Begoun. The product info in the book is a bit out of date, but the ingredient info remains valid.

I am not exactly sure why they are in this product, but I can assure you that this has done absolutely no damage to my skin! I LOVE this stuff, and I will buy it for life! Benefiance eye cream moisturizes and prevents wrinkles for me. I saw a difference almost instantly. My smile creases are gone, so, whatever those products are in there for, I don't care. They are doing amazing things for me! ;)

Minieral oil doesn't damage skin, it's been used as a moisturizer for literally centuries. It will, however, clog pores - cleanse properly and use the minimum amount needed. Alcohol is an anti-bacterial, which is good for your skin, but is extremely drying. This cream uses a tiny amount to act as a preservative and emulsifier - not enough to directly effect your skin.
If you have a reaction to this cream it's either because: (a) you're allergic to one of the main ingredients, or, most likely, (b) it's more moisturizing than you currently need.
Mineral oil is a cheap filler. That's why.
Most products have mineral oil and alcohol in them...it's the amount of each that would damage...like you say..your skin. I do not believe they would place an amount that could do that out there for people to use. I find this product safe to use. If you question it...don't use it..go organic.

I've been using it for over 6 months and it certainly has never damaged my under-eye area. On the contrary, my lines are diminished, it helps a lot with puffiness and is thoroughly moisturizing. BUT, one should only use a VERY tiny amount as it's so rich, no more is necessary! Terrific product.

I don't feel that it dries the delicate area under my eyes. The other ingredients Shiseido uses must counteract the ingredients that seem like they could be damaging.

Yes I have have read that as well, however some of the best french lines have used these ingrediants for years-this eye cream provides soothing smoothing, and I find it completley non irritating and have extremely sensitive eyes.

Mineral oil is not bad for skin, it's actually quite moisturizing (as you will see if you buy this cream), but certain companies in the cosmetics industry have gone out of their way to convince the public that this ingredient seem unnatural and bad because it's cheap (it's actually very natural and more importantly very safe, and has been a mainstay of moisturizers for many years). On the other hand, I agree the alcohol is questionable, but it's at the end of the ingredient list so chances are it's not there in a large enough amount to really do any harm.

I have no idea why this product has mineral oil & alcohol, I do know that I've tried many, many different eye moisturizers and none of them has ever worked as good as this one.
