Questions & Answers for MAKE UP FOR EVER All Mat

Question
How does this compare to other primers?
Specifically Smashbox or Bare Escentuals primers...has anyone used these and compared to MUFE? There is a significant price difference, but seem to have similar ingredients...

MUFE is much better then the BE. I hated the scent BE had, and it didn't do much for oiliness or reducing the look of fine lines. The price of MUFE is worth it.

I have used them all and personally I love the MUFE. I have big pores and oily skin and this helps hide my pores and gives me a longer matte finish

I've used Smashbox primers and they don't hold a candle to this one for oil control. I really love this. It is a bot pricey, but you really only need a tiny bit.

I've used the smashbox regular and tinted and I love them as they make my skin feel very smooth and soft. If your skin is oily (mine is regular) then you might prefer the make-up forever. I just use it on my T-zone.

helps minimize pores, doesn't fill in lines. Gives a great base for your foundation to really glow.

Question
i have combination/oily skin and my make-up usually "melts" off--will this work?
i use the mufe hd primer and mat velvet + (plus a little mac studio fix) and while i love the foundation, the primer doesn't do anything for oil or shine or even keeping my make-up on. everything just "melts" away due to my oiliness (and yet i'm still dry on my lower cheeks.. isn't my skin the greatest?).

does anyone think this primer might do the trick?

My skin is beyond oily. It's ridiculous. I used Bare Min for years, but realized it's not for me. I recently went to Sephora for a consult and found this All Mat and use it with Makeup Forever's Duo Mat. I love the combination! My makeup finally lasts and feels great. When I'm in a stuffy env. like an office for a long period of time and I start to melt, I just use a blotting paper and my makeup's restored. I don't think there's any magic answer for us super-oily folks. We just have to keep it at bay and this combo totally works for me.

I completely eliminate shine I have to use this All Mat primer. MUFE HD foundation, then a loose power ( or to totally eliminate Shine) use the MAC Blot Pressed Powder to kill the shine after the loose powder. This will usually last me all day. Give it a shot.

Yes. I had the same problem and the people at sephora recommended trying this for 10 days straight and if it didn't work you can return it!. I saw a difference in 2 days. Also Urban Decay has a spray to spritz on your face to makeup stay for 16 hours.

Question
best primer?
I just tried MUF regular primer in Neutral and it doesn't seem to do much for oil or smoother makeup application. Is this ALL MAT any better? ( I am oily and have acne, and big pores). How do these 2 compare to Smashbox Photo Finish Light? I tried a sample of Sephora Smoothing Primer which I liked but I don't think it's oil free and can't afford a breakout.

I heard MUF is much better, and perhaps they have an oily skin version. I could not find it so I got this. It did not work for me. May be it's the silicone in it dhat does not agree with my oily skin, or the change of season.

All Mat will not control oil. I have acne prone combination skin and while it did not seem to make me break out after 2 months of usage, it didn't seem to do anything. My face looked oily. I had more luck with smashbox light.

Question
use on eyelids?
Can this product be safely used on the eyelids?I have super oily eyelids which causes all of my eye makeup to disappear. Primer helps, but I'm wondering if adding an oil control product would be even better. I don't want to trade one problem for another, like causing milia.

You shouldn't use this product anywhere on your face. It's not good at all. It burns and does not matify your skin.

You should try:

- Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Instant Perfector: Clinique should've added the word mattify to this product, because the title is misleading. It actually matifyies and refine the pores.

- Lancôme Effet Miracle: another product that matifyies your skin and there's no mention on the title of the product.

- Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Stay-matte Hydrator: you should not apply this lotion on your eye lid because it's running and it may burn your eyes, but it's good for the other areas of your face.

This oil free primer will be suitable for an oilier skin type and will provide you with a matte finish. The mattifying powders (silica) will help absorb the excess of sebum (oil) and the silicone gel base, will leave the skin matte and smooth. Use this with the Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation for that shine free, matte finish.

Just go to the store and ask for a sample--that is how I figured out which primer to use. They gave me enough for 2 weeks so I could do multiple trial runs before deciding and this was the best by far!

Question
Will this work with BE??
I use BE Matte everyday, and usually use Smashbox Photo Finish Light primer, but the BE slicks off by the end of the day. I've tried the BE primer in oil-free and it doesn't do much for me in terms of oil control. Will this primer work with my beloved BE for long lasting and matte coverage?

I have very oily skin. I used BE for several years, but finally had to admit that BE just doesn't last long enough for it to be worth it, in fact I now think it's kind of a rip off that's not meant to last. Love the initial look, but no matter what primer I tried, in a couple of hours it looked like I never applied makeup. I recently switched to Makeup Forever Duo Mat powder (combined with the All Mat) and have never been happier. My makeup lasts and feel great.

Question
How does it compare to Smashbox's Anti-Shine?
Has anyone tried both? How does it compare? Anti-Shine keeps my face from getting oily longer than any other primer/mattifying product I've tried. However, it doesn't seem to work so well with the dry climate I live in, so I'm looking for other options!

I haven't tried the Smashbox yet, but why don't you just order the All Mat and see if you like it? Sephora will accept returns on product you've opened, so there's really not much to lose. I really like the All Mat, and I have very oily skin. It's not perfect, but it's really good. You should know, though, that it's a silicone-based product, so it feels really slippery. Some people like that, and others don't.
