I'm have natural auburn hair, but am darker than most redheads because about half my ancestry is mediterranean. Even in winter, I have olive undertones. I bought #3 because the swatch looked like the surface color, but the undertones show through unless I put a lot on. Now I've looked at the Smashbox site itself, and know I probably need #5, which I;m about to buy now! If you've got a tan at all, I'd go with that too.

I would say the 2.0 if you have a medium skin tone. I use the 1.0 but I am very fair skinned.

i love this concealer. I am a medium tan and i do go tanning and i use the smashbox 5.0 shade. It nice that even when i tan and get a little darker the concealer still covers great and and its versitile enough to to be ale to handle your skin getting a little darker or lighter.

Yes, I use this concealer in 5 with BE in Medium Beige every day. It's my go to concealer for covering acne scars and other dark marks.

This concealer looks cakey on its own, so I would imagine it would look really bad with Bare Essenctuals. Bobby Brown Creamy Concealer works well for me under Bare Essenctuals Matte.

Does not look thick or caked when using over BE, as you blend it in to your problem area

I have very pale skin and usually have trouble finding a shade light enough for me. I ordered #2 and it was too light for me! I'm going to try #3 now since I found the coverage good for blemishes

Normally you would want to use a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin color for blending purposes. But, this concealer is "full coverage" so there is not a blending concern so you should be able to apply this concealer directly on the scar...or whatever you're trying to cover up, and apply the rest of your makeup around the scar....then Blend, Blend, Blend.

You normally want to select a shade that is just a half shade to a full shade lighter than your foundation. You need to balance out the darkness with a ligher color (such as when used on dark undereye circles and acne scars). I use a combo of shades lighter than my skin tone and ones that are the same as my skin tone depending on where and what I need the concealer for.

You're better off using Benefit's Erase Paste, or a mineral makeup product. This little concealer stick is chock-full-o talc! And talc is one of the worst things you can put on acne-prone skin.

if you plan on wearing foundation and concealer, I reccomend that you always put the foundation on before you use the concealer because if you put it on before the foundation, you will most likely wipe off the concealer while putting on the foundation.

you can use this without a foundation over it as long as you have the right shade for your skin and blend it in. I just put a little powder over but it doesnt really even need it. this stuff works really great

Question
How blendable?
How blendable is this concealer? How well does this work on face (blemishes) and undereye discoloration? I am looking for natural-looking coverage that falls somewhere between the sheerness of a tinted moisturizer and the heaviness of foundation.

Great for spot blemishes, but the color probably wouldn't work well on undereye discoloration, as it's meant to match your skin tone. Check out Lemon-aid by Benefit (i just tried and reviewed it) for eye color-correcting coverage.

This is pretty blendable and great for blemishing because its so pigmented. However, it can be a little drying and so i find it to be horrid as an undereye concealer [gets a little flakey looking]. Hope that helps :)

It doesn't specifically say that on the package, but I've used it for several weeks on both active and fading blemishes, and have had no problems. Actually, I've seen a reduction in blemishes!

I would suggest going and try the #4, because I (with light skin) use #3 but somtimes it's to light, my mother in law (with fair skin) matches perfectly on the #3. So if you're changing form a #5 with a tan, a #3 seem too drastic of a change, #4 (with a light application) seems perfect

I am the same way and I use #3. Hope this helps. Also if you go in, they can give you a sample of each to try.(Take a small chunk off the top and put into sample container). Otherwise I would just go with #3, its always better to have concealer thats a little lighter rather than darker.

Question
Oily Skin &Prom :(
I have really oily skin and on my eyelids and right under my lashline. Since I have dark circles (which are reddish :/ ), I have to apply it under my lash line and on my eyelid BUT every concealer I have ever tried has creased up really fast. I do put a mineral powder concealer from Everyday Minerals over it too & that hasn't ever stopped them from creasing. So do you think this will stay or should I try something else?

Thanks

I have oily skin with dark circles that are reddish as well. I find that camera ready concealer works really well. But heres a few tricks. Use a face primer under your eye but not took close. (You do not want to make it redder than it already is. ) They now make primers that help control oil. Do not use your hands! I like to use a foundation brush, but a concealer brush will work too, its up to your personal preference. Then I use a mineral powder to set it and the rest of my make up at the same time. I like to use something with no color. Mineral powders are kind of messy and I do not like to use the little brush it comes with, I use a normal powder brush, but I like that it does not get that "caked on look".

This product is creamy but I haven't had any trouble with it creasing. I have used it on my eye lids to reduce redness and under my bottom lashes. I like it in these areas, but my skin is not oily. This product stays on and doesn't disappear throughout the day. I think it is worth a try.
