Does this mattify your face? Will it make my skin look more oily than it is?

pretty greasy, so don't hope for any mattifying effect.

answer 2
No this product will not mattify your skin. In fact, for being advertised as "lightweight" and "non-greasy", this product made my skin surprisingly shiny (and I have what I would consider to be very normal, balanced skin). I can't wear this without at least applying powder on top of it because of the shiny finish.

I found that the The Super City Block SPF 40 is too greasy to use under foundation, but if you just want to use it as a lightly tinted sunblock on its own, it's fine.

Yes and it looks good, but don't get too close to your eye, especially right above your eye. It can sweat and it'll sting your eyes

Question
How to prevent it from flaking?
I love this product, but it flakes when I put it on top of Even Better Tone serum. Any way to make it easier to blend? I put foundation after this product too.

I can't live without Super City Block especially living in NYC where it seems to really protect my skin from the grit & grime of the city air. Through trial and error over the years I've found what works the best for me:

1. Apply serum on clean skin. I use Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus. Let serum dry completely.
2. Apply City Block with a foundation brush, not your hands. It goes on in a thin layer and more evenly. Don't use too much, and don't try to rub in!
3. Let it dry completely. I usually wait 5 minutes and apply eye makeup while it dries. I have combination skin, and I haven't had an issue with dryness or oily patches.
4. I use either mineral powder or foundation over City Block. When I want a little more coverage, I use Clinique Stay Matte Oil Free makeup.
5. Occasionally if I'm not paying attention, I wind up applying a little too much City Block, which causes it to flake once it's dry. When this happens I use my contouring brush to lightly 'buff' the flaky area and it smoothes it out again.

This sounds more complicated than it really is...it's just tips & tricks on how to best use this amazing product!

I wear this product under my primer and foundation and havent had an issue with flaking. The only answer I can think of is maybe the time you wait between applying the products should be longer. Allow the serum to totally dry before you apply the Super City Block. If that doesnt work I would alternate between the serum and the protector. Hope this helps.

I don't unless I am really dry. I put it on after my serum and use it as moisturizer/foundation/sunscreen. If I want a more matte look I brush on some powder to finish.

Question
when worn alone, do you need to use make up remover?
i know of course if you wear make-up over it, you need to remove it all with some oil or stronger facial cleanser. But when worn alone, to feel squeaky clean after a day, do you need to remove it with a make-up removing oil? i'm worried my cetaphil gentle skin cleanser won't remove this entirely. I guess the center of the question is whether this is more like a moisturizer or make-up? If it's more like a moisturizer i don't think i need a strong removing agent.

I wear this alone and find that my Clinique face wash removes it. I do use a washcloth though and have never tried Cetaphyl with the city block but I believe they are somewhat similar and that it would remove it completely.

Personally, I don't need one. I apply, do whatever I need to do, and do my nightly skincare routine before bed. I wouldn't worry about taking it off, then doing your skincare routine. Hope this helps! : )

It is more like a moisturizer than makeup, just with a slight tint. It is completely oil free and rich in antioxidants so it is beneficial to your skin and not harmful. Your Cetaphil should wash it off completely.

I used it on my face when we went to Disney in August and I did not get burned while the rest of me did! I live in Florida and I have used it on the beach, just make sure you reapply if you are out for a long period of time or go in the water.

answer 2
This product is a sunblock. Any physical sunblock (zinc/titanium dioxide) is much better than a chemical sunblock, so using this at the beach would be perfect. This should be the last skincare product you put on your face, so put on all your creams/serums, moisturizer, then this. If you want, you can then follow with a face primer and/or foundation.

I think you probably can. I haven't tried, but I wouldn't hesitate to in a pinch. I usually prefer a "sport" sunblock on my body, but if your skin is sensitive. I would do it.

Question
How Noticeable Is The Tint?
I'm looking for a product for my husband who has recently developed skin problems due to sun exposure. This was one of the products suggested but now I see it's tinted, and obviously he doesn't want to look like he's wearing make-up! He has fair skin - how much of a tint does this really give? Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

There is not much tint at all- the color blends in. Your husband would not look like he is wearing make-up.

You just see the tint from the package on your fingers but the minute you put it on your face, the tint goes away. It's not a makeup just a good sunblock and primer. I've used this for years!

The tint is quite sheer on this. I have extremely pale skin, and it didn't leave me looking orange or "made up". I'd imagine it would work well for your husband. Fair warning, though- it was really, really shiny on me. He may need to powder after applying this in order to avoid looking greasy. If he's not down with the idea of powdering, I'd suggest a different sunscreen,

If you do go with something else, my husband uses the Peter Thomas Roth uber dry sunscreen. Of all the things I've made him use, this is the one he's complained the least about, so I'd say it's pretty darn good!

I'm a light medium to medium depending how tan I get and it blends in. If I was lighter or darker, the difference in color would definitely show. Obviously, you can use it if that isn't an issue for you.
