This item is not formulated for acne but, will keep your skin clean and will clarify impurities.

I've been using this for a few months now, with the rest of the 3 Step System, and it cleared my acne right up. I've had terrible acne for the past 7 years, and nothing else works this well.

For acne, I would recommend sticking with the Acne Solutions 3-step system. I am also an acne sufferer but the Acne Solutions system is too harsh for my sensitive skin. The regular Clinique 3-step system will keep your skin from being oily and will cleanse it properly, given that you use the right formulation for your skin, but it will not tackle the acne problem. If you're still struggling with acne while using the Acne Solutions system, I recommend using Clinique's spot treatment containing benzoyl peroxide. It works wonders to help zap zits.

Even thought I'm 40, I still get occasional breakouts. It won't prevent breakouts, but it will help keep your skin clean. The soap is gentle on my skin and there is no greasy or oily feeling after rinsing. It washes away clean. It also helps me to use the Clarifying Lotion in this regimen.

I believe you can get samples of this. At a department store, they gave me several samples of some Clinique lotions to try out and I loved them all!

It depends on your acne I suppose, but I really wouldn't say this one would aid in preventing further break outs etc. To me it's more so something to clean my face, not preventative for anything.

Not an esthatician, but this would definately be a little milder than the acne solutions line. Some Sephoras have trial size samples of the 3 step line, so ask for one. Or, go out on a limb, buy it, try it for a few weeks, and if it's not to your liking, take everything + reciept back to the store!

It will clean your skin quite well - but if you have oily skin, it may feel too emollient.

Try using the mild facial soap and see if it improves the dryness of the skin around your mouth. (If you've got oily skin, the extra mild might be too weak.) You can always also treat the oily areas on your face with a clarifying lotion (maybe level 2 or 3). Also, you can "spot treat" any breakouts you might get near your mouth without putting stuff over that whole area. I'll sometimes get one spot near my mouth that breaks out, and it drives me crazy, so if you've ever had that experience, I sympathize! It's kind of trial and error, but that's what I would suggest. Make sure you are doing your 3-step, their Dramatically Different GEL moisurizer is a miracle product. Skin is soft, and not oily like with so many other moisturizers out there when you have oily skin. Hope this helps! Also, are you using their Toner? Maybe you need the one for oily/combination skin rather than oily skin.

if that's the case, I think you should go for the mild one.

I had this problem too about drying around my mouth and around my nose. I went back to where I bought this and they recommended two things: 1) using the exfoliating cleanser and 2) using a face lotion that comes in a pot, can't remember the name. I opted to use the exfoliating cleanser around the dry patches every other day or so. Cleared right up.

if its only drying you in certain areas, you should go with mild, because its for skin thats not the same everywhere. i'm really dry around my chin, oily on my nose, and normal everywhere else, and it does the trick for me

not immediately. over time, yes. you might need a spot treatment for faster results.... and a trip to a spa for a facial will help kick start it too. Treat yourself!

I havent had any luck with it removing blackheads in the past, I had to use an electric scrub thing. There are other cleansers too, that have a more tingly scrubby type thing for deep cleansing, I feel like this is just for everyday stuff.

This is a good basic cleanser. For skin concerns such as blackheads, I saw a dermatologist who prescribed a retinol cream.

You might want to check to see if they sell travel sizes at department stores. I have seen them in Seattle.

agreed! but they do sell the little 3oz travel bottles (with a cute bag to match)... shhh... *wispering*... or try a clinique counter in a dept. store....

A travel size is available at Clinique counters, not at Sephora. I've snagged them at Nordstrom and Macy's before.

I know they sell the bar soap in mini-bars with a small case that is perfect for travel. But if you just can't stand a vacation without your liquid facial soap, then I would get a small dispenser made for air travel and pump some for each trip.

No way! I have a little oil around my nose and chin in the summer and this isn't for that condition. Go up one or two levels, perhaps Liquid Soap in number 2 or 3.

The liquid facial soap for oil skin is amazing. I have oily skin AND sensitive skin and it's the best cleanser I have used for both. I would recommend following the 3-step skincare regimen: use the liquid facial soap for oil skin with sephora collection cellulose sponges- they are good for total face cleansing; follow up with #3 clarifying lotion- it gets rid of any excess dirt and oil and makes your skin feel fresh and fabulous; then use the dramatically different moisturizing gel-best lotion for oily/sensitive-it hydrates without making your skin greasy. I also use the murad oil mattifying lotion in conjunction. Hope my regimen works as well for you as it has for me :)

You sound like me! I would highly suggest this cleanser for you. I have noticed a drop in the amount of oil on my skin and it is non drying or irritating. I do use the clarifying lotion for oily skin to help with the extra slick spots. But even then I use it all over my face and it doesn't dry me out at all. Give it a try!

I am no professional, but I would suggest the mild soap. And then exfoliate with either a 3 or 4 toner, and then the moisturizing gel. You should follow Clinique's 3 step system. Ask a consultant about it.

I have oily skin all over and sensitive skin as well and I get oily througout the day. I've been shopping for products that does not make my face oily throughout the day.
I would recommend Clinique's extra mild liquid soap, its more gentle than the regular mild soap. The regular mild soap makes my sky dry and itchy afterwards.
I have not tried the extra mild toner yet, but will get to it soon.
For sensitive skin and to avoid cleansers from stripping away your face, try using alcohol-free products.
I really like Clinique's 7-day scrub as well, its very gentle and helps wash away impurities like dirt, dead skin; and minimizes pores as well.
For foundation, use mattifying or mineral products because they help absorb oil. I use and highly recommend Sephora's Mineral Pressed Compact. It gives your great coverage, does not feel heavy, unless you apply layers and layers of it.
For sunscreen moisturizer, I LOVE the Perter Thomas Roth "Uber-dry Sunscreen SPF 30." You can use it as your daily moisturizer all over your face. I use it under my eyes as well but not too close because you dont want it to get into your eyes, it will burn like regular sunscreen.

I use this face soap, twice a day, everyday, and prior to exfoliating, steaming or masking my face. It is important to remove excess oils and buildup, especially prior to using any secondary product. You always want to get the most bang for your buck, and achieving a clean face before using any further product, allows those products to work to their greatest potential.

I bought the Clinique exfoliating scrub and it actually says to use the facial soap AFTER exfoliating. I guess that way you've scrubbed off all the icky stuff and the soap has pore access to deep clean pores.

You do not want to exfoliate with oil on your face. The cleanser allow you to wash the oil and dirt off first. If you exfoliate with oil and dirt on your face, it just means you're spreading the filth around. Hope this helps.

You want to clean your skin before you exfoliate. If you don't, all you are doing is exfoliating the dirt and grime off your skin, not the dead skin cells you are intending to. You would just be wasting a product and not getting the benefits from it. I suggest using the take the day off foam before you wash your face, this removes any make up on your skin, then cleans your skin (not just washing off make up) then use the clarifying lotion. You'll get amazing results

I use it before exfoliating to remove any last traces of make-up, oil or dirt before I go to town on scrubbing away with my weekly facial exfoliating scrub. It's like starting with a clean slate so that I can attack the dry layers of skin that need to be gently scrubbed off.

Although Sephora might not have it, I may have seen it at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and/or Macy's.

I was offered the bar soap or the liquid soap when I bought the regimen in July 2010. I opted for the liquid soap.

I'm pretty sure it's water based. If it was oil based I definitely would not have purchased it.

Yes. The mild works for me...I have dry skin but with oily T-zone. If you have allover dry skin, you should try the extra mild. It doesn't soap up as easily and somewhat feels like there is moisturizer in it.

Maybe too mild. If you wear make-up this product may not do a good enough job removing all the dirt and make-up, even if you use a make-up remover. Consider a slightly stronger formulation....unless you wear no make-up.

If you go to the clinique website they have a test you can do that will determine which products are for your skin type.

This formula is for very dry to dry skin.

I think it is good for mild acne-which is what I used to have. I couldn't use the acne cleanser because it contained salicylic acid as it gives me a bad reaction.

I use this and follow up w/ the acne solutions "lotion" (toner) and drop of spot healing gel mixed in my moisturizer and love the result. I think the acne solutions cleanser didn't clean my face well- I always felt like it was still dirty/greasy, and it didn't give me the results I wanted.

I have a whitehead/blackhead problem too! I use this product everyday, twice a day, and I would highly recommend it. For me, this product keeps my pores clean and clear without drying out my cheeks. I would recommend, however, adding in a secondary product for after washing, like a topical product with salicylic acid or a toner to help keep pores even clearer.

This is for everyday use. If you have mild situation of pimples, use a cleanser that contains Salicylic acid 2 times a week. You can alternate to keep your skin clean.

I would use this over the Acne solutions. I have mild acne as well.. sometimes worse than others. I have noticed my skin clear up, and it is non drying or harsh on your skin, like most "acne" products are. I would HIGHLY suggest using this cleanser, the clarifying lotion ( for your skin type- I use the oily one) and then the dramatically different GEL lotion. It's not as heavy as the original lotion and is made for oily/ skin that breaks out easily. It will give you the moisture you need so your skin doesn't produce more oil, which leads to break outs. I finally went back to doing all 3 and see a big difference. I would also suggest using the Foaming take the day off cleaner BEFORE you wash your face, It's designed to remove all make up before you cleanse so you really get to clean your skin..makes sense huh!
