Question
Can it be used as a conditioner replacement?
The shampoo I'm currently using is very moisturizing (and solid), but it tangles up my thick, curly hair like crazy. I normally use a silicone-free liquid conditioner to add an extra moisture-punch and detangle, but could this be used as a replacement? i.e. wash my hair, rinse, get out, spray with black vanilla, comb, wa-la?

I would say no...this is nicely conditioning for every day but not deep enough to properly condition one's hair after washing it, in my opinion. I use the Black Vanilla Hair Smoothie (here on Sephora's site they sell a Black Vanilla Conditioner, but Carol's Daughter doesn't sell that in her stores) and then I use this leave-in to help with detangling and blow-drying my hair. Then I use this leave-in on a daily basis to refresh my hair and give it a little weightless moisture.

We haven't found that it can replace a conditioner, but our daughter has really tight spiral curls when dry and loose curls when wet. Her hair dries out really easy, so we use heavy duty leave-in conditioners because we want to weigh it down a bit (this Black Vanilla leave-in conditioner does NOT seem to weigh her hair down at all, by the way). We just add this on top of the hair milk as a way to add a bit of shine and hold in a bit more moisture.

YES!!! Tried it on a girlfriend with exactly the same dillema & it worked like magic. Plus, you can use it throughout the day , if you get frizzy action, w/out weighing down your hair or making it greasy. It also smells vaguely of some marvelous pastry. She now uses it everyday, just like me, and I have completely different hair. I can't say enough good things about this product & I've never answered a survey question on a website before. That's a testimonial, ladies. Tee hee! Seriously...great stuff.

Yes. I like to use this as an extra conditioning product. I use it when I comb my hair because it makes it easier and after washing even when I do not use another conditioner.

I use a light conditioner in the shower plus the leave-in carol's daughter as an additional detangling treatment. Haven't tried it without conditioner, but I think it might be too light.

Yes it can. I use it on my 12 month old, and it does wonders. I shampoo and spay the black vanillia, and go. I also use it as a daily conditioning.

It does nothing for conditioning. It really is just a great smelling product and it does help with frizzies abit but that the extent of it.

For me, the spray made my hair tangle more, and that was with a conditioner. I wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for a conditioner based on my experience with it, but you might look at the other Carol's Daughter products--they are affordable and good quality.

No you can't rely on this product to be a good conditioner or a detangler. I did order the black vanilla shampoo and I like it a lot. The leave in has a nice smell and that's about it. Aussie's 3 minute miracle or Nexus Humectrus should work for you. I reccomend Ojon as well. If you have any tips for naturally tight curly hair feel free to pass them my way.

I think this product would be too oily for people with straight hair. If you are white with curly hair I think it would be good. Just don't use too much.

I am caucasian and have medium textured hair that is damaged from coloring and blow drying. My hair looks shiny and smooth when I use this. I have used serums, shine sprays and oils, and really prefer this. It does what it claims.

As a fellow caucasion, yes this product is wonderful-for all hair types, yes I believe it will do great with thin hair also; I believe it thickens hair, thoroughly believe in the product!

I'm a 50 year old white chick and this is wonderful on my hair, which is dry, colored red and fine-brittle. It makes my hair smooth and stops breaking, I love it .
My husband uses it too, he had a dry scalp as he gets older and it's great for a moisturizer that isn't oily...
I love the khoret amen too..gorgeous sandkewood and pachouli, but this is light and breezy.

Some of their product really are just for African-American hair but this is very light and can be used by anyone. Carols Daughters body products can and should be used by everyone just not the hair products. they are too hearvy and will make your hair look unwashed and greasy even if you use tiny amounts.

This product does't even work for african american hair! It has a very nic esmell to it though. If I were you I would try Ojon. I've used the restorative hair treatment. The smell isn't bad, but it's not great either, but it works. I put it in my hair at bedtime and rinse it out in the morning. Or you can just put it in you hair an hour or 2 before you shampoo.

This product is very light & because it doesn't have thick,heavy oils in it I think it may be OK for your hair type. Just spray a small amount in hair when its still damp & comb thru. Product seems to work well for all hair types- not just African American

I have only been using this product for a month, and I can't really say it has helped with hair growth. But, I have found that vitamin supplements specifically for hair/skin/nails work really well!

I don't know if it will help it grow thicker & longer, good nutrition is probably your best bet for that, but it certainly helps with breakage.

I have thick hair, but have noticed it is a bit thicker-but not frizzy, so yes I think with continued use, you will notice a nice head of hair!

not a lot to go on here but it sounds like you may be overprocessing your hair. if you're not doing a deep conditioner or a reconstructing treatment (or both) when you wash your hair then you should start. also if you don't have one already, invest in a satin headwrap and/or a satin pillowcase. this will help your hair retain moisture at night when you sleep, and the wrap will help maintain your style so you're not doing daily damage with heat styling.

I have the black vanilla shampoo and conditioner and I really like the smell. Does this have the same scent? I see lavender listed as an ingredient and I really don't like lavender.

No, it does not smell like lavender at all. I had a friend who got up close n personal and thought it smelled like coconuts, but to me smells truly like vanilla. The scent is very, very subtle and only someone who is in your intimate zone could detect.

The leave in smells just like the shampoo. It's not a very good conditioner, but it smells good. I just use it as a refresher.

It's a 10. Works wonders for easily tangled hair. I tried other products to save money, only to disappointed. I was so happy to finally receive my It's a 10 once I reordered it.

It's not enough for your leave in to be a detangler, your shampoo and conditioner should be too. The black vanilla shampoo and conditioner are definitely good detanglers. This leave in is supposed to be good too but since my hair is really curly I don't comb it once I'm done washing. If you use detangling products every step of the way, you end up using less product over all, so you should just try the set.

I think the Joico is rather more intense than this product, as much as I like it. I don't consider this a stand alone conditioning treatment, just an extra oomph before styling.

If Joico worked well for your hair, then you'd b disappointed in the black vanilla leave in. It will leave your hair smelling nice, but that's about it.

Try going in stores to Sephora. They always have test or product samples for you to try in store. I definitely recommend checking out all reviews AND going in store to try the product out for yourself before making a purchase ... only because some things can cost alot. However, I do believe Sephora allows you to return items that do not work out for you to! So check out their return policy before just thinking that you will waste money since some things CAN be returned although you have already used it.

No, but for $12. A bottle lasts about 6 weeks. And it's one of my beauty MUST haves.. Worth the money.. Go try the tester in the store and wait an hour.. :) you'll be back for some!

I have baby fine hair & live in Atlanta, where the weather can be crazy humid, especially in summer. I use this product year-round & daily, sometimes 2 or 3 times to kill flyaways, and its the only product I've ever found that doesn't weigh down my hair. I spray all my girlfriends' hair when they come over & it has the same remarkable effect on everyone. It also smells like a dream w/out overpowering your fragrance.

It shouldn't do anything.To me it's more like a hair refresher so it stays in your hair. Its like putting on perfume it just sort of dissolves. It is however kind of sticky when you touch your hair. Other than that you should be good in high humidity. I hope I helped you.
