Skin purging, how long did it last, and what did it look like?

I am 20 and feel like I grew out of my acne phase from high school. I havn't broken out since I've been in college (almost 3 years now) but wanted to improve my skin overall. I bought my clarisonic about a week ago. Immediately after using it (2 days) I broke out with cystic acne. Now (about a week later) I have red bumps that won't pop ALL over my face. I don't know if this is normal for purging, or if my skin is just too sensitive for the brush?

I'm curious to know of other people's 'purging' experiences? How long did it last? What did your purging look like?

I wish I would have known this before I spent the money on such an expensive product. I'm planning on giving it another 2 weeks (1 month total).

I used to suffer from acne but with the right products for diminishing scars (philosophy's lotion and clinique's serum) and clarisonic have made my skin so perfect. I have nothing. No pores or blemishes. I look totally flawless even up close. I have to admit though these results came by after consistently using it for about 3 months. Also with this what helped with my black heads was with cream by a korean company called (Pleasium control cream). You apply a thin layer all over face the first thing when you wake up. Wait 10min and massage in circular motion wipe away the dead skin cells that comes up with tissue and follow with your daily cleansing routine. Do this once again at nighttime. The product contain royal jelly. It'll help eliminate blackheads and give you a natural glow to your skin.

I suffer from blackheads. When I first started using the brush, I didn't notice a huge difference. But over several weeks I started noticing that I had fewer and fewer blackheads. Like other people have said, make you you steam your face first.

I had the tiny blackheads on my nose and they have been reduced, but are not gone completely. They do come out easier, though. I think it will just be a matter of time.

This definitely got rid of the larger blackheads on my cheeks, the ones that always seem the clog in the quickest amount of time. Make sure you steam well first in the shower. Steam does not technically open pores (common misconception) but it does make it easier for the gunk to slide out. I'm a blackhead sufferer and noticed a difference with this right away.

If you have a problem with small tight blackheads directly on your nose you may notice a slight change after a few weeks. If not, you should go get a processional blackhead extraction done and then continue to use the product. The deep cleansing from the brush will help prevent those pores from getting clogged again. Flakes, oil and makeup is what causes blackheads to begin with so if you can keep your skin clean with this you should notice a difference long term.

Long story short: if you only just have a few small tight ones on your nose don't expect miracles, but if you are a poor soul like me and have some on the chin, cheeks, and even on the forehead you may notice a huge difference like I have.

After a few weeks of use you will definately notice a reduction in blackheads. I actually used a Biore pore strip on my nose before I started the Clarisonic and now I don't get blackheads because it keeps your pores SO clean.

YES! The area on my nose and in the groves beside my nose and my chin had blackheads the most. After the first day's use (2x) I could see the large pores on and around my nose, but they were devoid of black heads. This goes well into the proes gently and lifts the impurities out. Don't be afraid if your skin breaks out after first few uses...It's bringing the dirt up to the surface and out of your pores. That's a good thing! I've never seen my large pores ccleaned out as well, ever! Hope this helps.

Also, three months isn't really that long for the price. The Sonic toothbrush lasts longer than three months and it does more work, IMO. Do the results justify the ongoing cost?

I have the sonicare toothbrush and they do recommend replacing brush heads every three months so I'm not sure of your point. Here's what they say on their website "Brush heads are extremely important to the effectiveness of a Sonicare. The ADA and Philips Sonicare recommend brush head replacement every three months for optimal plaque removal results." Ok sure, brush heads DO last longer than the mfg recommends for the replacement schedule but In my opinion if you're going to spend $200 on the Clarisonic device you're doing yourself (and your skin) a disservice by not replacing the brush head as recommended. It's like buying a Ferrari and not being willing to pay the price for the recommended high octane gas :)

Absolutely, it does! I use this brush morning and night. I even stopped using if for a while (got lazy) and I noticed a BIG difference with my skin. Within a couple of uses, my skin was clearer and smoother again. While not using it, my foundation didn't go on as nicely...you could see it settle in on my nose. Now that I've gotten back to regular use of my Clarisonic Brush, my makeup goes on smoothly--you can't see it at all. It's a splurge, but it is COMPLETELY worth it if you want your skin to look great!

It does. If you keep your brush heads clean (I use baby shampoo), mine have lasted 4-6 months instead of 3. I also rotate them constantly so that I don't wear any down.

I questioned that at first too, but I've been using the brush for about three months now and I am very happy with the results, so I feel the cost is more justified than I anticipated. I only use mine once a day, rather than twice. It seems to be enough to still take care of my skin well, and that way you can double the amount of time in between replacement brushes.

Sometimes I think that is just a way to keep you coming back to purchase more. Honestly I love my brush and have not replaced the brush head in 4 months and it still looks new to me. When you purchase the Clarisonic they include a certificate for a free brush head when you register your product online. So that's nice too!

Do you break out more with this product on daily use?

Hi, So I forked up the money as I had also heard great reviews. I had moderate cystic acne for which I was on accutane and it cleared up my skin. Havnt had any break outs for 2 years now. (no single zit...) I am 32 and wanted my skin to look fresh and so I got the brush for exfoliating. I used the brush for 8 days daily and on the 10th day I got a pimple on my chin!! I have stopped using it as I'm scared that is what caused the break out? I noticed a lot of people mentioning that they had breakouts? Is ithe breakout from daily exfoliation or is it from the fact that may be my moisturizer or face wash isnt any good and is being absorbed into the skin? I got SK-II facial essence and airbrush foundation as well. So not sure what is the cause? any response would be appreciated.

I agree with a previous answer; don't give up yet! I too have had cystic acne, not too severe, but cystic acne none the less. For approximately the first 2 weeks of using the Clarisonic my face broke out; mostly in my problem area, the chin/mouth area. By week 3, my skin had settled down and I have been blemish free since. (I have a severe problem with "picking" at my skin. If I see a bump or any "raised" skin, I will squeeze it.) As long as I am not "picking"; my skin looks great! So........don't give up and don't pick!!!!!!

If I am wearing makeup, I also do a 'prewash' with my cleanser before using Clarisonic, otherwise, it may push the makeup deeper into my pores. Did my complexion worsen after first beginning use? Not too badly, but it was all worth it - I was having frequent breakouts; now, I may get one blemish once every 1-2 months.

Even though no one want to break out- the break outs are the impurities in the pores trying to GET OUT of the pore, so it's a good thing. This brush when used with the appropriate cleanser for your particular skin type helps loosen the dirt and bring it up to the surface, out of the depths of the pore where bacteria thrives, and off the skin. It's circulating the blood with it's vibrations and blood feeds the skin cells, so it's going to help renew as well. Don't quit so quick! The breakouts will cease after a few weeks of 2x per day daily cleansing. There won't be as much bacteria and built-up oil left in the pores to come to the surface, so no ore break-outs! Try it again. The exfoliating it does keeps dead skin cells from clogging the pores, too, hence less festering yuck in the pores. Try it again.

I have oily skin and use this brush twice daily. I was told by a aesthetician to wash my face twice when I wash; once to remove make-up, once to deep clean. I wash my face with my hands first, and then I pour cleanser on the brush head and wash with the brush second. I break out less while using the brush because it keeps my skin exfoliated.

I have oily skin with quite noticeable pores. At 51 I feel I have pretty much tried everything out there. So after hearing such rave reviews about the Clarisonic I purchased it. It is not a miracle worker. I can remove all my makeup first and then use the Clarisonic with a very reputable cleanser for two minutes, rinse and dry. I did what I call my "toner or astringent" test afterwards and still found residue. I think a good cleanser, washcloth and toner are still the best.

I use cetaphil cleanser with my clarisonic. I don't think you need a harsh cleanser with this product, since the sonic motion helps to clean your face more effectively. I tried it with vichy normaderm when I ran out of cetaphil for a week and broke out terribly. Granted it was probably from switching cleansers - but the cetaphil is doing just fine for me, inexpensive, gentle, non-drying.

u can use any brand of cleasnser with this unit and brush, EXCEPT the type that has crystals in it. i use my favorite when i have it on hand and if i happen to run out any that is available that does not contain crystals.

I use it with my Kate Somerville Gentle Daily cleanser. I have used it with other cleansers. I think anything is o.k. as long as it is a smooth cleanser. I would not recommend using it with any kind of scrub. That may be a little to harsh. Your skin may be more durable than mine. Mine is very sensitive. I hope this was helpful.

I got my Clarisonic from my esthetician and although the Clarisonic comes with several cleansers, she told me to continue using my facial cleanser with it because it was working. If you are currently using a cleanser that you like, keep using it; the Clarisonic works with any facial cleanser! Don't change your regime just because the brush came with trial size cleansers and you think you should use them. I pair my Clarisonic with SKinMedica - a prescription strength cleanser. Love the results!

The instructions you get with this product tell you to remove your eye makeup before you use it. I would recommend NOT using this product around the delicate tissue around your eyes. There is a reason we treat our eye areas differently... the skin is much more sensitive and delicate. Only gentle patting, blotting... ect should ever be done around the eye area. You are not even supposed to rub your eyes when they itch because it is too rough on the the delicate skin! I'd just say no to using this around the eyes if you are trying to keep those peepers looking young.

30 and wondering if I need this THAT badly...

I am 30, non smoker and use a gentle exfoliator each day plus SPF 30. I use a cleanser that doesn't leave makeup residue and my skin is smooth and looks good except for a wrinkle between my eyebrows. I am tempted and intrigued by the Clarisonic. Just wondering if this is really worth the $200! Thanks!!

I am 19 and didnt get it because i have bad acne, and im not old enough to worry about wrinkles but i absolutely love my clarisonic. My face feels SO clean after i use it and my skin is so incredibly soft! I use purity made simple face wash and washing your face with your fingers or even a handheld bush (like sephora's pore precision pad) just can not compare to the clarisonic. My blackheads are getting smaller, and easier to remove and my pores are getting smaller and i wear less foundation because i dont need the coverage anymore! If you do get it, do not return it if you start breaking out, this is your skin getting rid of all the dirt that is trapped in your pores, but once it is gone, your skin will glow!
All in all, if you have the money to spend on it, it is well worth it!

To respond to kaytee's answer, you are supposed to remove your make-up first before using this brush. The Clarisonic is for deep cleansing and exfoliating, and will help rid your skin of leftover make-up residue when used in conjunction with your cleanser. To remove your make-up, you should use a proper make-up removal wipe/cream', or at the very least wash it off your face beforehand.

It absolutley is not! Rather than getting a deep clean feeling I felt like this was spreading the dirt and makeup around my face and into my skin. You will get better results using a good daily cleanser and exfoliant as needed. Please don't waste your money on this..... You can use the money you save to by things at Sephora that actually work!

when i first stared using this brush (on low with the sensitive head) my skin was broken out and the brush DID irritate it (and i do not have sensitive skin). it actually made the breakouts worse. its good for blackheads/clogged pores and rough skin. if you can get your skin to clear up another way this brush would probably help to prevent future breakouts.

it has two levels of "pulsing" one is specifically used for sensitive skin and you just place the brush on your skin and move it in circular motions.. dont press it hard on your skin..doesnt work well like that.. they give you instruction on how to use it for sensitive skin.. Also make sure you have a good facial wash thats perfect for your skin.. I use it with Biore' deep cleansing.. works great for me and i used to have lots a breakouts

This brush is non-abrasive (no exfoliation). It cleans very deeply but also very gently. I think you would have no problem after a week or so of retin-a. That is about how long the peeling lasts. I am a skin care specialist and I have never seen a problem with this brush, with the possible exception of too many people wanting to use it in my house!! LOL.

I use the Obaji skin care system, which includes retinoids and other ingredients that cause the skin to peel (renewal). With twice daily use of Clarisonic, I have had absolutely no issues of increased peeling or sensitivity. Perhaps at first use there was some reddening, however, that has resolved; the Clarisonic actually helps with the peeling and gives a smooth, healthy appearance. I would DEFINITELY purchase this system again.

Optimum settings?

I started using the brush with the factory settings (1 minute, low pulsing) but I felt like 1 minute wasn't enough time to get all of my face. I changed it to 2 minutes and I was wondering what other people set theirs to for the best results? It's been two weeks and I don't see any results yet (I have combination skin with a lot of breakouts on my chin/cheek area). I am only using it once a day now, but wondering if twice a day would be better, or changing to the higher pulse setting. Does anyone else with oily/acne skin have any recommendations on this?

If your skin is acne prone, the clarisonic *alone* won't cure it. This is great for skin cleansing BUT you need to also use acne treatment products like those in the Peter Thomas Roth line to *treat* your acne.

i've been using the brush for about a month now. i can't figure out how to change the settings so i usually just turn it on again for the second minutes, using it in the morning and the evening. one minute isn't long enough for my combo, acne prone skin. i was using a foam cleanser which i loved but have switched to purity. a milky cleanser seems to work better with the brush.

Use kinerase clear skin serum and lotion..WOW, what a difference ....
go on the website..or check out KINERASE SERUM on this website and read the reviewS

I am telling you...i know 8people now..that are FAITHFULL to kinerase clear skin line...THEIR SKIN LOOKS LIKE A 360....I could not believe it..WOW
