Questions & Answers for Ole Henriksen Enlighten Me Pigment Lightening Serum

Question
Can I go tanning if I use this product?
I'm scared because I don't know if it will have an affect on my skin since its a lightening serum and tanning does the opposite.

I'm not sure what would happen, but I wouldn't want to risk making any of your spots darker, or causing more damage to your skin. At most tanning salons they give you towels for whatever purpose you choose. I would use they to cover your face, or where ever you use this serum. Then just your your foundation and bronzer to make your skin look even with the rest of your body. I hope this helped!

The purpose of this product is usually to lighten spots on the skin which are caused by sun exposure (damage). Therefore "tanning" would defeat the purpose of using the product in the first place! Even when walking outside for just a few minutes a good UVA/UVB sunscreen should be applied.

FYI when speaking to the Sephora specialist about this product, I was told that you must use SPF 15 or higher during the day because sun exposure can actually make the product have the opposite effect then is intended. So be careful with tanning and this product.

If you mean just out in the sun for outdoor activities, I can tell you that it has had no adverse effect on me. However, I always wear a minimum of 25 spf and 50 spf when excercising outdoors. Even with that, I get a tan because of my skin tone. This product will lighten my entire face...which looks a little weird to me when I see how tan the rest of my body is! :)

Try products with Kojic acid, but dont go over 1 or 2%. But you must use sunscreen everyday over the area. It might make your skin more sensitive but it is thought to be better than hydroquinone. I have a lot of spots on my face from birth control too and sun exposure when I was a teenager. I am getting chemical peels (Lactic acid/Kojic) and they recommend supplementing the kojic serum and sunscreen between treatments.

I used it for dark spots that appeared on my face from birth control and it did absolutely nothing to help them. The only thing that I have found that works is putting SPF 70 on the spots every day. I've been using Neutrogena Face Shield and the spots have actually been getting lighter. Unfortunately, none of the natural products I have tried worked.

One ingredient to stay away from is hydroquinone. It is listed as the main ingredient in a lot of skin lightening creams and is actually a type of bleach that makes your dark spots worse. It makes your skin ultra sensitive to sunlight, making the dark spots even worse.

Yes it can help fade freckles with Strivectin SD. I developed freckles for the first time in my life 5 years ago. I tried many products, but what worked was Ole Hendrksen Enlighten Me and StriVectin SD, in 5 months I'm freckle free. Remember freckles is the over production of melanin. I hope I was able to help.

Question
Did this product change?
I've been using Enlighten Me for a year or so, and I ordered a bottle online last week. It was a different consistency -- thicker -- than I'm used to, and slightly lighter in color.
Did they change the product, or did I get a defective bottle? Many thanks.

I don't believe you may have gotten a defective bottle, because I too noticed the slight change. It works even better than before. Just remember to store it in a dry dark place because natural ingredients tend to break down faster in sunlight and as well as in artificial light. I hope I was able to help you

As Ole Henriksen uses natural ingredients in his products, so this may affect the color and consitency of his products periodically. He does typically list an expiration date on his items, so if the item is not expired it is fine to use and has the same active ingredients and benefits.

Question
Can I use in the AM?
Hi,
Can I use this in the morning instead of pm? I use something else at night that I cannot layer with other products. Is there a reason why it says use at night?
Thank you

Yes,you can use it in the morning, just make sure you use a good sunscreen, Josie Moran has an excellent 40%SPF with Argan Oil. just wait a couple of minutes for the serum to penetrate. Apply the serum while you skin is still moist so it has a maximum affect, then your sunscreen, and finally your make-up. Any product that specifies to be applyed only at night simply means it does not have ingredients to protect you against the sun and that they may not be compatible with makeup. These products tend to be slightly heavy, which is another reason to be used at night in the privacy of you home. I hope I was able to help.

Congrats!! Because you are pregnant I recommend you ask you OB/Gyn physician first. But in my humble opinion, yes you can, because Ole Hendrksen products are all made with natural ingredients.Remember the first trimester is the most crucial, so you have to be very apprehensive. I hope I was able to help.

Umm.. my understanding and experience is that this stuff layers really well and is definitely not a lotion/stand alone. It works with my hyperpigmentation dude to hormone induced acne scaring. But, it takes time to work. So for me I find it works on old scars well and keeps no scars from being so strong. But I still get new scars when I break out each month. The sheer transformation lotion also clears up skin and I was told to use the enlighten me under sheer transformation at night for faster results.

Definitely use it at night. It's a serum so it might feel heavy during the day, or might not mix well with your makeup. I've been using it nightly for discoloration but as it clears, I've begun to use it every few days. In the morning I use the Herbal Day Creme SPF 15.

Question
do i use this on an active breakout?
I have oily/combination skin. I use a salicylic acid face scrub and am also using Rareminerals Blemish Therapy. Would you recommend putting this on skin with an active breakout or wait until the breakout is reduced to try to help lighten the scarring? The problem is I have an area on my cheek that has horrible scars but also continues to constantly have a breakout as well.

you should wait until it starts to heal a little bit and use it like a spot treatment (thats what my local sephora associate told me)

As this item contains lactic acid it provides mild exfoliation, so this would be helpful both in preventing discoloration as well as addressing the dead skin (which contributes to breakouts).

Using a scrub with granules is not recommended however when you are having an active breakout; the salicylic in the product you are using may be helpful, but to prevent the spread of bacteria and also prevent irritation, manual scrubs should be used to prevent breakouts but not be used during active breakouts.

I use both, which helped it clear up even quicker. Within only 1 week I noticed a huge differance. The murad is sticky, but if you put it on before Enlighten Me then you won't have that problem.

Question
Hyperpigmentation/Mustache?
I am plagued with the hyperpigmentation mustache or whatever its called. I've been using suncreen (like my dermatologist and the lady who gives me facials said to do) but it just doesn't seem to make a difference. I am tired of wearing makeup and always having to cover this up!

How well does this product work on the hyperpigmentation mustache? How long do you have to use it?
Does it completely fade with this product or does it just lighten up a little?

Does anyone know of any really good products out there that can also help get rid of this hyperpigmentation mustache? Please help!!

I'm assuming you have olive or medium skin tone, or dark haircolor, (a brunette). If I am right, the shadow that you see is not the skin but the hair follicle underneath skin. You can try Ole Hendriksen Enlighten Me, but if it doesn't do the trick then it is the hair growth. you can try lightening the hair or waxing. But if you wax eventually you will see the shadow in about 5-6wks. And you must remember that area is very delicate. I understand your concern because I too have a mustache. I wax then apply "Ole Henriksen Enlighten Me" it seems to work for me. I hope I was able to help.

I think it would depend on what causes the pigmentation. If you have stubborn marks that will not go away, I would seek the help of a professional dermatologist. But always remember, anytime you use a lightening serum, you must use a strong sublock on the area in the daytime. The area being treated will be more susceptible to sun damage after you have used lightening products. So use strong spf''s and stay out of the strong sunlight anytime you use lightening products.
