answer 2
Whereas the lotion provides your skin with both, moisture and lipids, the gel is oilfree. It gives your skin the moisture it needs, but it also helps reduce the oil production. This being said, make sure not to apply the gel around the eyes, where the skin is naturally dry.

A gel is lighter so oilier skinned people can use it. It can also be used as a moisture base for other moisturizers for normal-dry skins.

OIL-FREE! it may not seem like a big distinction but to those with even slightly oily skin, the oil-free aspect of this gel ensures that your face won't look like an oil slick by mid-morning, it also helps clear and prevent breakouts! wonder gel!

When I tried both the lotion and the gel at the Clinique makeup counter I was told that the lotion is best used for those who fall into the Clinique skin types 1 and 2, and the gel is best for types 3 and 4. In other words the lotion is best for those with dryer skin and the gel is best for combination or oily skin.

The gel is more lightweight than the lotion. In my opinion, the lotion would be suitable for winter weather, and the gel for summer weather. (:

With the lotion I was experiencing increased under the skin breakouts in the T-zone as I aged which surprised me. Clinique suggested the switch to the gel & the breakouts subsided. After a few months they disappeared never to return. That was three years ago. The cheeks improved in appearance & looked more moist than with the lotion.

This product is not suitable for dry skin, since it reduces the oil production. If you have dry skin, you have a lot of dry skin cells on your skin surface that do not let moisturizers penetrate your skin. The best way to get rid of that problem is to exfoliate on a regular basis. I would recommend the 3Step system for your skin type and a face scrub once a week. Also try Moisture Surge Extended for a quick refreshing boost of moisture everytime your skin feels tight and uncomfortable.

This would be a good start. It's not intense enough for dry skin. I would suggest using this at your home and take a small cream moisturizer in your purse to work, so once your inside pretty much for the rest of the day, you can apply the moisturizer that sinks in slowly without the concern of pollutants.

Absolutely. I live in Baltimore, MD and have the same problem. The difference between this and most face lotions is that it doesn't have an oil base to clog your pores. It is a gel base and works wonders. I definatly recommend this product to fellow city-dwellers.

I have the same problem oily t-zone and chin area but super dry on my cheeks and oddly inbetween my eyes. This stuff works great and gives me enough moisture with out being heavy or greasy. The nice thing to with sephora is if you don't like it after you try it you can always return it. If you havea sephora near by stop in and ask for a sample of the lotion to test it out.

No, it won't. This product is not a moisturizer to be used on its own. It fixes your skin's moisture barrier, so a moisturizer can penetrate your skin easily and stay in your skin all day long. Make sure to get a moisturizer for the day that has an SPF. If you use the 3Step system before (including DDMG) you need much less of your moisturizer and your skin will continue to feel smooth and well balanced despite the cold weather.

I live in Minnesota where we get cold winters and harsh winds, too and since using this moisturizer I haven't noticed my skin drying out. If the amount of time you spend outside is minimal, I think you will be fine, especially if you have naturally oily skin. Unless your skin DOES tend to get noticeably drier in the winter, perhaps try switching to the Dramatically Different Moisurizing Lotion for the cooler season.

I love the Dramatically Different Gel, and up until a couple of weeks ago I used it morning and night. I loved using it both times of the day, but then I tried a sample of the Korres Wild Rose+Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial, so I switched to only using the Clinique moisturizer in the mornings. With your skin being on the dry side, I would personally recommend the Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial.

SMELL?
Hi Ladies!

Can anyone try and describe the scent of this moisturizer? It is lightly scented? Does the smell disappear after putting on the moisturizer?

I tried the Origins moisturizer with Mimosa and I couldn't stand the smell. I don't live close to a Sephora so my only choice is to order it online.

Dimethicone listed as an ingredient makes me break out like crazy because it clogs my pores. I bought the large bottle size and after a month I started developing a progressive acne in areas I never had acne before. Some people breakout others don't. You should try a small tube and make your own conclusions.

this never makes me break out. I have very oil and not sensitive skin. If you have combination or a little oily skin, people say it makes it too dry, so i suggest try the lotion one. This really really helps my skin stay nice and matte for 7-8 hours. I absolutely love it. But its not just the gel the acne at bay, i highly recommend you to use it with the clarifying lotion. At night, use the neutrogena on-the-spot treatment or the Mario Badescu drying lotion! The drying lotion gets REALLY good results if you use it on the spot every single night, never miss a day for on the spot treatments!. use the on-the-spot treatment in the morning to. It helped my acne, go away eventually. Hope it works for you!

It doesn't make you break out and very nice under makeup, but if you have oily/combo skin, you should use a primer on top of that to seal the moisturizer in and keep shine at bay. It won't break you out, as long as you wash your face before going to bed.

Unfortunately, this clogged my pores and made me break out worse than I ever have in my life. I have sensitive skin, and I am sure that this reaction was caused by the algae in it. It is listed as "laminaria saccharina" (not sure if that's spelled right). I should have known because it stung a bit when I applied it.

That is actually what I find it most useful for. My skin is very oily in the general T zone area as well as part of my cheeks. I wash my face, put on their pore refining serum and then this, concentrating it on the dryer parts of my face. I find it works really well under makeup. I get smoother coverage than without it.

Yes you can wear it under makeup, though I wouldn't recommend it for very dry skin. As for the priming effect, though it doesn't create as much of a"film" like finish as traditional primers do, I notice this gel lotion does create a smoother surface for me to put foundation on (I've compared it to the regular-formula lotion and there is a visible difference). Once again, doesn't really work as well if you have really dry skin.
