Whereas the lotion provides your skin with both, moisture and lipids, the gel is oilfree. It gives your skin the moisture it needs, but it also helps reduce the oil production. This being said, make sure not to apply the gel around the eyes, where the skin is naturally dry.

A gel is lighter so oilier skinned people can use it. It can also be used as a moisture base for other moisturizers for normal-dry skins.

OIL-FREE! it may not seem like a big distinction but to those with even slightly oily skin, the oil-free aspect of this gel ensures that your face won't look like an oil slick by mid-morning, it also helps clear and prevent breakouts! wonder gel!

When I tried both the lotion and the gel at the Clinique makeup counter I was told that the lotion is best used for those who fall into the Clinique skin types 1 and 2, and the gel is best for types 3 and 4. In other words the lotion is best for those with dryer skin and the gel is best for combination or oily skin.

The gel is more lightweight than the lotion. In my opinion, the lotion would be suitable for winter weather, and the gel for summer weather. (:

With the lotion I was experiencing increased under the skin breakouts in the T-zone as I aged which surprised me. Clinique suggested the switch to the gel & the breakouts subsided. After a few months they disappeared never to return. That was three years ago. The cheeks improved in appearance & looked more moist than with the lotion.

Sephora didn't put Parabens in the list "Made Without," so I'd say it contains parabens. Sephora is pretty good at listing the harmful things that companies are leaving out of their products.

I have the same problem oily t-zone and chin area but super dry on my cheeks and oddly inbetween my eyes. This stuff works great and gives me enough moisture with out being heavy or greasy. The nice thing to with sephora is if you don't like it after you try it you can always return it. If you havea sephora near by stop in and ask for a sample of the lotion to test it out.

No, it won't. This product is not a moisturizer to be used on its own. It fixes your skin's moisture barrier, so a moisturizer can penetrate your skin easily and stay in your skin all day long. Make sure to get a moisturizer for the day that has an SPF. If you use the 3Step system before (including DDMG) you need much less of your moisturizer and your skin will continue to feel smooth and well balanced despite the cold weather.

Yes, I've used in both cold (Michigan & Illinois) and warm climates (Texas & Nevada) and I really enjoy it. It's really a year round moisturizer, you don't have to switch to a heavy "cold cream" just because the temp drops!

I live in Minnesota where we get cold winters and harsh winds, too and since using this moisturizer I haven't noticed my skin drying out. If the amount of time you spend outside is minimal, I think you will be fine, especially if you have naturally oily skin. Unless your skin DOES tend to get noticeably drier in the winter, perhaps try switching to the Dramatically Different Moisurizing Lotion for the cooler season.

For normal skin you could use either the gel or the lotion, bith are great. You may perfer the gel for day and in the summer months and the lotion at night or in the winter when you feel like extra hydration may be needed. If you tend to get oily in your T-Zone, however, I would stick with the gel.

I think the gel might work better for you. I have combination skin (my T-zone is oily) and I find that the gel absorb quickly and does not leave me feeling greasy or shiny. I usually reserve the lotion for the cold winter months and use the gel during the rest of the year

Although this moisturizer is designed for oily/combination skin, I think it also works well on normal skin. My sister has normal skin and used my DDMG and then purchased the lotion version. She later exchanged it for the DDMG because it worked better for her skin

I recently read an article that said that the moisturizing LOTION had an outdated ingredients list and they still put a lot of unecassary ingredients in the lotion like mineral oil, which is not a friend of the skin, that make it not a good choice for you. However they praised this gel and said it's one of the best on the market and has a very nice formulation to it. I have oily skin and this absorbs in almost immediately. I think it could be just fine for you're normal skin.

No, this is not a night time moisturizer. Its very light and absorbs very quickly. You can put a pretty sparkling powder over your face and a powder blush right over it in five minutes. Try NARS aqua gel hydrator 3.6 oz for night time - TO DIE FOR!!!! I cannot live without it!

I love the Dramatically Different Gel, and up until a couple of weeks ago I used it morning and night. I loved using it both times of the day, but then I tried a sample of the Korres Wild Rose+Vitamin C Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial, so I switched to only using the Clinique moisturizer in the mornings. With your skin being on the dry side, I would personally recommend the Korres Greek Yoghurt Advanced Nourishing Sleeping Facial.

SMELL?
Hi Ladies!

Can anyone try and describe the scent of this moisturizer? It is lightly scented? Does the smell disappear after putting on the moisturizer?

I tried the Origins moisturizer with Mimosa and I couldn't stand the smell. I don't live close to a Sephora so my only choice is to order it online.

Honestly, I think you should NOT use a moisturizer at all. As you said you have extremely oily skin, and moisturizers will only add to it. The only reason you should use moisturizer is if the alcohol in the other steps dry you out. Try just washing your face twice a day and using the other clinique products. Also, I would recommend using only powder foundation, not liquid if you wear makeup. The powder will help soak up excess oil and you can reapply as needed throughout the day. Also, maybe try some oil pads that soak up excess oil around the t-zone during the day! Hope this helps : /

Are you over-using it, maybe? Only 1-2 pumps can cover your entire face and you should always work moisturizer from your driest points to your oiliest. Also, are you waiting for your skin to dry after using toner? That can screw with the moisturizer as well. This is the best moisturizer for oily skin that I have found and I have a greaseball face with sensitive cheeks. I've not found a moisturizer better than this.

answer 5
Try to use Ivory soap or another mild soap for your face and use the moisturizer without using the toner everyday. You do not need to strip your face daily with a toner...reduce toner usage by every other day. If you have very oily skin, keep it clean daily, but always use the moisturizer daily because oily skin is just a sign that your skin is actually dehydrated and needs the moisturizing gel. Be patient, you will see the difference.

i also noticed that my skin got a little greasy after an extended period of using this moisturizer. i would recommend the use of a mattifying oil-free moisturizer. i'm sure there are some brands covered on sephora, but i know body shop makes 2 or 3 different types of mattifying moisturizers. i also use aveeno's clearing complexion oil-free moisturizer with salicylic acid in it. overall, i would just look for an oil-free moisturizer that is especially targeted for oily (not combination) skin.
good luck!
