You definitely need more than a quarter-sized amount. The product actually says to put a heavy mask on, but anything in between a moderate to heavy would be fine. A quarter-sized won't even cover your face well. You probably need at least a silver dollar sized, minimum.

I would use more than a quarter sized amount. You don't want it to dry out like a clay mask so use enough so that it doesn't dry out for at least 10 min.

Hard to say exactly how much to use, I put a nice light layer all over face & neck. Just remember, you add more but can't really take away once it's globbed on your face. Maybe slightly more than the size of a quarter, or start with that size & then add from there

Do you use this after applying toner?
My daily routine is

Would I apply this product after the toner? or do I skip the toner step on the day I use the enzyme mask.

I have sensitive skin, rosacea, and acne so for me no matter what I use, I always have to use toner afterwards and then lotion if the toner isn't enough. I find the mask is hard to wash off so I use toner to try and get any excess off.

I personally don't use a toner because my skin can't handle it along with a cleanser and retina cream, however, my suggestion would be to continue with the toner if that's what your skin can tolerate. This mask is super gentle and will definitely not strip your skin of its moisture.

Toners have a dual purpose: to remove any additional debris and to prep the skin to receive products. Although it's tempting to think that using the toner before the mask might increase the mask's efficacy, using the toner after the masks helps ensure that any of it's residue is removed so that your moisturizer can do it's job and your skin can breath. If you want to skip your toner, I'm sure that's fine, but I don't think this mask is a replacement for a toner.

I always use this mask immediately after cleansing. In fact, I try to apply it as soon as I get out of the shower, so that my pores are clean and open. I think this allows maximum penetration of all the soothing goodness. I do my toning and moisturizing routine after I remove the mask...your toner will also help to whisk away any residual gel.

I think you could use this either before or after your toner, depending on why you use a toner. If your toner tends to be drying, this would be perfect for calming your skin afterwards. If you use a toner just to refresh your skin, like a hydrating mist, this mask might be better before the toner. Hope that helps!

I suppose the answer always depends on how much you personally use, but I feel like I put a thick mask on (and sometimes a second application) and mine has lasted at least a year--though I don't use it 2-3 times weekly. I would imagine there are at least 20 applications. It's worth the cost.

I purchased this mask sometime in the fall of 2010 and I use it about once a week to once every 10 days. I still have it and it's May 2011. You don't need to use that much at all, just enough to coat. This was the first Ole Henricksen product that I purchased and I have purchased other masks as well and they are all very much worth the money since they last so long. I am a woman on a budget, but love great quality. I highly recommend this.

Question
What exactly does this mask do?
I have mild acne issues, but those are covered by DDF's Sulfur Mask (which btw, is amazing). I'm looking for a mask to relax with, like a mock spa treatment at home. I read that this is a gel texture, so I'm interested. What exactly does it do though? Does it brighten? Hydrate? Plump? I don't have much skin issues, although lightening acne scars is a goal of mine.

This mask is definitely a treat to the senses. It dramatically hydrates and gently exfoliates your skin. It tingles and leaves a cool sensation on your skin, which feels so nice, plus it has a very soothing smell.
Also, the enzymes help with new blemishes. It has definitely helped heal my breakouts; even a deep one that was just forming on my chin. It healed in only 2 days, which is very fast to me.
The results are definitely not instant or dramatic, but if you want to treat your skin to a soothing, hydrating treatment then I recommend this mask. it basically leaves my skin smooth, refreshed, and vibrant. But it's not a miracle product that will cure all your blemishes and make your pores disappear... It does come very close though! :)

Wow, you have a lot of the same skin issues as me! I've been using this in conjunction with acne treatment masks. The acne mask once or twice a week and this product a couple days later to help shred the dead skin that the acne treatment masks produced as well as condition my skin after all the drying and intensive treatment. Since, I'm using it with the other mask it's hard to tell about the blackheads, but it does a great job getting rid of excess skin and evening out my skin tone and well as brightening it. Definitely make sure after using this mask to moisturize!!!!

I use this in conjunction with nose strips for my blackheads and then once a week I do a stronger peel, though I may skip a week of the stronger (Dennis Gross) peel and use this instead. So my regimen is OH mask and nose strip, off day, Dennis Gross (or OH if skipping a week of strong peel), off day, OH Mask. Your pore size is your pore size- pretty much genetically. Don't expect any product to shrink them away. Keep your pores cleaned out and your skin tone even (which this OH mask really helps with, also makes you nice and glowy!), and your pore size won't matter so much.

Hey, I adore that acid peel. I use it 2-4 times a week in the evenings and on the other nights I use this mask. Because I use the extra strength peel my skin can't do every day w/o getting trashed. So I use this as a hydrating restorative mask every few days. Honestly, when I tried this mask, I had a crisis of faith towards my Dr. Dennis Gross, because this mask makes me skin sooo happy, did I even need what I thought was my HG peel any longer? As turns out, it's a perfect marriage and my skin hasn't looked this good since I was in high school. My suggestion: have your cake and eat it too with these products, but don't over do it, they both deliver so you don't need to double up.
