Questions & Answers for Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes™ 4-in-1 Mascara

Question
does it hold curl?
i have been using waterproof mascara which is the only thing that holds my curl. I have stick straight, ASIAN eyelashes that won't hold curl. I have used a TON of non-waterproof mascaras that just make my eyelashes droop down back to normal. does this hold curl? please, if you do not have lashes like mine, then please do not answer. preferably asians should answer lol

or can you recommend non-waterproof mascaras that work for asian lashes?
thanks! (:

I always use an eyelash curler, so I don't know if it does it on its own. However, it does hold the curl all day. I would recommend always using a curler just because it looks better. But I'm sure you could use it without a curler and it would be just as fine.

I have Asian lashes too so mine are short and stick down and are not full. I use this mascara with Shu Umera eyelash curler and it works wonderful. I use the curler first to curl the eyelashes and then I put about 4-5 coats for each eye. And I finish it off by curling it again with the eyelash curler. Works great and holds up for the majority of the day. I usually curl it again in the evening if I'm going out so it'll perk back up.

The product information says that it creates 92% curlier lashes. However, this is not a mascara to be used if you would like to create uber thick layers of mascara, it is best used lightly. If you are unsure about this mascara, it is best to find a store near you that sells it and try it out for yourself. Also, there is a waterproof version of this same mascara that may better suit your needs if it is usually waterproof mascaras that work for you.

I'm Asian and I have the same, exact problem as you do! I have found that no non-waterproof mascaras keep the curl, at all. I have tried dozens and found that if my curl stays, the mascara is waterproof. The only waterproof mascara that NEVER uncurls my lashes is Waterproof Maybelline Lash Discovery. I tried the non-waterproof version and it totally uncurled my lashes, unlike the waterproof one. So I figured there must be something in some waterproof mascaras that keep from uncurling my lashes. I don't know what it is, though. Wish I did!

I would also like to know if anyone else knows a mascara that doesn't uncurl lashes. I can't seem to find any. I actually liked the sample of this mascara. It did lengthen and volumize my lashes, but I had to recurl my lashes after applying. But when I did, my lashes looked amazing. I want to get the full-size product but noticed there is a waterproof version. I might get both and if I do, I'll let you know how they are.

Question
blue/green eyes, blonde hair - what color mascara, eyeliner, shadow?
I'm a natural blonde (strands varying from light to dirty blonde) and have blue eyes with some green in them. I have been trying forever to figure out what the best colors to use around my eyes are. I'm not a huge fan of eyeliner, but I would love to find the perfect mascara. What color should I go with?Any suggestions of a specific brand? And what liner and shadow would compliment? My skin is a light tan, with rosy hints. Thanks for any advice!!

I have blue eyes and blonde hair as well. The eye look that looks best on me, and would work for almost any blonde haired blue eyed girl is gold on the lid, brown in the crease, a light color for highlighting in the corner of your eye and on your brow bone, black eyeliner, and black mascara. The palette I use is Urban Decay Naked3. For the lid I use Trick, for the crease I use Mugshot, for the highlighter I use Strange. For eyeliner, I use a jet black eyeshadow on the lash line. I use the 'Better than Sex' mascara by Too Faced. This eye look works best for me and I'm sure it will work for anyone.

I'm a natural blonde too, and for the color of mascara -- I can say that for years I've worn dark brown or brown-black thinking that black would look too harsh with my fair skin and blonde hair (blonde lashes naturally too). But I recently started wearing black mascara and think it looks great. Doesn't appear too harsh at all.

I am fair skinned with light hair and blue/green eyes. I use the Tarte mascara in black as my lashes are almost blonde. The Lights, Camera Lashes mascara is not clumpy at all so you can apply several layers if you like to darken up light lashes. For eyeliner, I use the Buxom eyeliner pencil in Emerald, then smudge it just a little for a softer line. In summer I use a mint green or aqua eye shadow on the lid. Have fun!!

I recently purchased the Tarte TEN Limited Edition Collector's Palette. These colors were really stepping outside my comfort zone because they seemed dark and dramatic. However, with a couple of lessons at the Beauty Bar I learned how to apply for day and night in a few combinations. This palette came with the awesome mascara, and a two sided eye liner. I love the feel of the shadows and they stay on all day.

tarte, lights camera action mascara would be great. it coats easily so there won't be any blonde/light brown eye lash roots. go with black mascara...unless you want to go for a "i'm no wearing makeup look." redheads are the only ones that i would use brown mascara on.

i have dirty blonde hair, blue/green eyes, and fair skin. to make my eyes pop, use purple shadow or eyeliner. stay away from blues! browns, bronze, and copper will also make your eyes pop (orange and blue are opposite on the color wheel...). if you'd like more indepth advice, i would purchase the book by carmindy (she is the makeup artist on "what not to wear") called "the 5 minute face." it gives specific tips on the appropriate colors for you based on hair color and skin tone. good luck

As far as colors go for light haired/skinned people like us, I have found that the pastel colors are the most flattering and the easiest to blend and match. Pinks (of varying degrees) are a staple in my beauty box as well as lavender, purple blue (both dark and light) as well as yellow. I use the colors depending on what I wear and how light my hair/skin is that day.
As far as eye liner again stay away from reds, dark greens in fact stay away from any dark color except for black of course. I find that I can use my eye shadow for an under eye highlighter and black eyeliner for my upper lash line. I love the Sephora brand that is a liquid and has an applicator brush. The eye liner is called long-lasting eye liner and the Sephora number is: 92930. Use caution though, it easily runs and can be applied in too big a swash. First wipe the brush off on the inside of the bottle before you apply it to your eye. When you do apply it, use very gentle pressure, at least till you get a feel for what you are doing then you can use any method you see fit for you.
I truly hope this has helped and good luck. I just wish I had a big sister or girlfriend who could have given me this advice when I started wearing makeup. Have fun sis.

well i have brown eyes but i also use green contacts sometimes...
plum generally looks better on brown eyes (another reviewer says green but watever)
if your eyes are mostly green use a gold liner/shadow or double line with a black then gold. generally green eyes have some gold flecks and this will help them stand out. but since your blonde i think this will also help the more light or golden strands of hair stand out also
if your eyes are more blue try a more copper-ish tint. it looks amazing and really i think if you whant the darker blond strands to stand out use this.
ummm for mascara use black... personally i use the blinc kiss me mascara and even if you have blonde lashes this will look great.
also for some bold shadows try make up forever, urban decay, and too faced has a very nice plate called naked eye that i LOVE.
hope i helped :)

I have blue/green eyes too and dirty blonde hair as well. I find that gold, pink, or brown eyeshadows will make blue eyes POP. For gold, Urban Decay has an endless variety of GREAT quality golds and browns, I like baked, or twice baked, it may seem intense but it looks great on eyes. For pinks, try the Loreal H.I.P pink and black eye shadow duo, it's great. Also tans, or shimmery shadows would make your eyes pop. For mascara i suggest Dior Brand "black out" ,or "Iconic" or Tarte's "Lights camera, Lashes".

I have long, thick naturally curled lashes and I do not use much mascara on my lashes but will this mascara benefit my lashes or clump them up? I don't like the "overly" done and thick effect on my lashes. Natural looking lashes is what I like.

This product didn't clump at all in my experience, and I am on my second tube. However this mascara really lengthens your lashes. So if you already have long eyelashes maybe you should instead concentrate on a mascara that will give you volume (which is not this mascara) since this might make your already long lashes look a bit fake or showy.

Nope. It is actually one of the better mascaras I have used. In Dior, I would always get little flakes under my eyes during a stressful day but not with this one. And Dior kinda irritated my eyes too if I slept in it overnight but this one doesn't. The only time I had slight itchiness was when I accidentally applied some of this mascara too far inside my bottom lashes and it irritated my eyes just a bit but after washing it out, it was not a problem.

The mascara formula is very stable and doesn't flake. My skin is hypersensitive, so I cannot wear anything irritating like SPF lotions, etc, and this mascara hasn't irritated my eyes at all. However, I will note that when it's humid outside, it does tend to run a bit, so I would definitely use a light waterproof topcoat to ensure all-day wear.

I wear contacts and I recently tried this mascara. It did not annoy my eyes when I put the mascara on or when I took my contacts out. The next day my eyes were not irritated at all.

Probably safer than most mascaras as I find it doesn't drip easily or leave any mascara crumbs.

It is great for your lashes. I wear contacts and have no issue. The only thing is you need to work with it while it is wet. By that I mean if you are going to do two coats, do not wait until the first coat is dry. Add the second coat while the first coat is still damp. If you wait until it is completely dry to add another coat, it will flake. As you may know flaking and contacts do not get along;)

I wear contacts, and I've never had any issues with this mascara. However, the mascara is sensitive to moisture, so I've established a beauty routine that ensures my contacts will not get irritated. I apply this mascara prior to putting in my lenses. Once this mascara is dry and set, I apply and very light waterproof topcoat and let that dry. Once the look I'm going for is achieved and absolutely dry, I put my contact lenses in. This way, I don't get any mascara on them and I don't have to worry about any type of eye irritation. Hope this helps!

I use this daily (have used this brand for about 7 months) and wear contacts. Because it is free of parabens and other irritants, I have no issues with it.

Question
Regular VS Waterproof
I'd like to try this mascara but I'm not sure if I should buy the regular formula or waterproof version. What are the advantages of regular v. waterproof? Which one holds a curl better?

The waterproof definitely does not hold a curl nor does it define the lashes quite as well. That being said, it's still the best mascara out there for those days that you know you'll be shedding a tear.

I really don't think you need waterproof. The regular really stays on and I have really watery eyes. I did not get the waterproof because it is really hard to remove. Try the regular first and you can always bring it back to Sephoria and they will refund your money of you need the waterproof

I'd go with regular unless you're scuba diving. It's pretty tough! I was in a pool with the non waterproof and it was fine

i've tried both and i prefer the regular. the waterproof doesn't seem as moisturizing and smooth to me. the regular lasts long enough to stay on for a night out.

i am not sure which holds a curl better, but i would only get the waterproof if i were going to be in a situations that involved water/getting wet/crying.

This mascara is awful! There is no resistance when the wand is pulled out and it comes out with huge clumps of gummy mascara that gets worse each time you use it! You end up wiping $20 of mascara off onto tissues. It also flakes something awful and makes lashes look very clumpy and not natural at all!

not sure how much help this is, but i have never tried the waterproof, because the regular really doesn't smear much-you have to use makeup remover to get it all the way off as a rule. Good luck! i have been REALLy happy with it since a consultant recommended it to me.

The waterproof mascara is not as great at curling i found. if you want full performance mascara i would go with the regular non waterproof. the waterproof tends to be a bit stickier and isnt as great at creating volume.

I dislike waterproof because it never comes off. I have really bad watery eyes because of allergies and this mascara stays put for at least 13 hours. I even took a nap in it and my eyes still looked great!

I got both the regular and waterproof samples in a free gift and I think the regular is WAY better! The waterproof was really clumpy and ended up not being waterproof at all ! Go for the regular ! And this is by far my fave mascara that I've tried !

Well, if you cry a lot and live in a rainy city and forget often to carry an umbrella, I'd go for the waterproof... I personally dislike ANY waterproof formula since it is usually hard to get rid of it...and it irritates your eyes.

It is really up to you.

Question
Compare to Lancome Defincils?
I love and have used Lancome Defincils for 17 years. However, I've heard some great things about this mascara but I mostly like the fact that is "natural". Has anyone tried both products? Is it just as good, better or stick with Lancome? Thanks!

I have used both, they are not similar. I would say the Defencils is more defining for an every-day mascara and Tarte is more "huge" volumninous lashes.

You should try it!! It is fantastic!! I had Lancome at one point and liked it, but it separated too much and didn't give me the volume I wanted. Tarte does!!

Before switching to naturals, I was a huge Lancome fan (for at least 20 years). Definicils is a great mascara, Tarte is just as good with the benefit of being "natural" . Key difference - is that you can layer a little better with definicil and it lenghtens just a bit more, but all in all, Tarte does a really good job.

I prefer Tarte. Lancome takes too long to dry and I found it clumps. Tarte looks more natural (and IS natural) but still gives thickness and length.

I also was a die-hard defincils user, but then I tried a sample and fell in love. I love it because: it lasts all day, doesnt flake off, makes my lashes longer than any other, and it comes off easily in the shower (I use Cetaphil).

I was devoted to Lancome Defincils for YEARS. Then I developed an allergy to it and was devastated that I couldn't use it anymore. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I was forced to find something else that was a more natural, gentler formula. Little did I know that my quest for something new would lead me to something far superior - I think. Given the choice, I would never go back to Lancome now. I love this mascara. It's worth trying it - it's cheaper than Lancome too.
