Questions & Answers for Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder

Question
Which shade to purchase?
I am very fair (always use the lightest foundation, etc, but am yellow-based, not pink-based) and am wondering which terracotta is the right one to buy? I used to use it when I was a teenager but don't remember what shade... but I loved it!
Thanks

I think the terracotta comes in only one color...as it always has, and has worked on everyone. Lighter skin, just brush it lightly.

Hi,

I have very fair skin, and 1 is perfect for me. Shade 2 was too dark and looked funny, even with a light swipe of the brush.

Hope this helps.

I am fair skinned too and I always use Terracotta #3. It is very natural on me and it is never sparkly. I would say that it is matte on my skin and I too was looking for a bronzer with no sparkle. This has none and is (in my opinion) the best bronzer you could ever purchase for yourself.

Hi,

This was published on iVillage. It was requoted in an article by Chrissy Dolezal.

Maybe this will help.

"Thank you to iVillage for the article, Are your cosmetics past their use-by date? by Eva Gizowska. The following is a simple guideline to follow when you are cleaning out your makeup bag.

Oil-Free Foundation: 1 year
Cream or Compact Foundation: 18 months
Concealer: 12-18 months
Powder: 2 years
Blush and Bronzer: 2 years
Cream Blush: 12-18 months
Powder Eye shadow: 2 years Cream Eye shadow: 12-18 months
Eyeliner: 2 years
Liquid eyeliner: 3-6 months
Mascara: 3 months
Lipstick: 2 years
Lip liner: 2 years
Lip gloss: 18-24 months
Nail Color: 1 year
If you are using natural cosmetics, these should be thrown out sooner. Regular cosmetics contain ingredients that do help prolong shelf life. But of course natural cosmetics do not. Please check with your favorite natural store for the information on the cosmetics you love"

Just so there's no confusion, I have quoted the above article, and given credit to author as previously published on the internet. I was checking this out myself a few weeks ago, as I was cleaning out my makeup drawer.

Hope this is helpful.

If you keep your brushes clean the product will last for years, assuming you don't use it on a daily basis.

No. 3 will give you a nice glow (not shimmery) if you're tanned.

Go with No. 3, it will bring up your tan during the summer and will give you a warm glow during the winter. You can easily apply more product to get a eeper color with a brush and if you go too dark just blend it with translucent powder.

Question
color choice
I am still confused over choosing #2 or #3. I have brown hair &eyes. I am 58 and tan very easily, but at the moment I am from IL so the summer color has faded. Many powders tend to turn "orangey" on me. I have read all the reviews but very seldom do they talk about color choices. I think that should be specified in ALL reviews for every product. When I try to decide on lipsticks I find this especially frustrating.

the term "neutral bronze shade" in product description means its not too orange - not too brown - not too shimmery.
this is an excellent bronzer for all ages and skin types.
Choose shade depending on your skin undertones. Look under your wrist in indoor light and outdoor. Is it pinkish? or yellowish?
also if you tan easily and rarely burn you most likely have deep olive skin..
yellow undertones are in light olive skin and deep olive skin.
try 02 for light olive skin - it is rose/peachy,
try 03 for deep olive skin - it is a warm gold.
Many Latin women have deep olive skin
Eva Longoria for example.
Many Asian women have light olive skin
Lucy Lui for example.
Caucasian celebities with light olive skin include
Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie.
good luck!

sounds like you have yellow undertones,
similar to Jennifer Aniston
the 02 is best for a light olive skin tone
bronzers look great on you including pearlized ones.
02 - a soft rose 03- a warm gold
both excellent for highlighting cheekbones.
For you go with 02 - as rose tones suit most all skin type.

It really depends on the undertone of your skin.
My skin is light, but leaning more towards medium (if that makes any sense). The make-up artist originally tried the shade above the lightest one on my skin, but it was too yellow. I purchased the lightest one, 00 Make-up Artist, and it's perfect. I'd recommend this one, especially if you want to build colour. That way, it won't be over-powering, especially since you do have blue eyes and darker blond hair.

ask an expert sales person ... go slightly darker but not wear you look like you just came out of a tanning booth or using fake liquid or spray on tan products. This is natural but adds a kick!!

Question
Want to replace an old bronzer...
Revlon used to make a great pressed powder bronzer called Sheer Radiance which seems to have been discontinued years ago. The color was a clay-red bronze without any orange or yellow tone to it. I'd love to find a similar product. Can anyone suggest another product that might do the trick to brighten/awaken my 56 year old dry, sensitive, dull, medium beige complexion?

this product is worth every penny. and will do you well.
try 02 for rosey/peachy and 03 for warmer gold.
there are great illuminating skincare products.
my skin (in its late 60s) has dramtically improved since I began using the multi-purpose Givenchy Vaxin. My co-workers and people at church noticed before I did! Invest in your skin care (facials - quality products) - I like the look of the new Sephora skincare line. Perhaps try the illuminator. I like Murad Night Perfecting Cream. good luck!
